I did not have PPD with my first. With my 2nd, it took me 4 months to realize that was what was going on and to get help. I exclusively bf from day 1. My period returned at 4 months, and my supply dropped. I started supplementing occasionally at 5 mos. During month 6 I had to go away for a full day, so my husband fed him formula all day. (I wasn't able to pump much after I got my period.) He was the happiest baby after eating well all day, so I knew it was time to switch to formula. By month 8 I felt like myself again. I totally think my PPD was related to breastfeeding. I will bf if we have another, but I will also seek out help much sooner.

@pachamama: there is nothing wrong with continuing to breastfeed but if I could go back in time I should have gone to see someone about it. I was not in a good place and going back to work at 5 months pp made things worse because my job added more stress

Mine isn't breastfeeding related necessarily (I'm no longer breastfeeding) but I definitely have hormone related depression. Usually 9 to 10 days prior to my period. And lots of physical pain as well which doesn't help my mood. It's hard and frustrating! Hang in there! Hopefully yours will subside when you're done BFing

@pachamama: For me there seems to be a connection between the two. I EBF'd my DD for 15 months and I had really bad PPD. Since weaning her about a month ago I finally feel back to normal. I have read similar stories on Google.

Background... I am still EBF my 7.5 month old, which has been very easy and enjoyable. I had some pretty severe PPD that abated at 8 weeks but I have bad days still... I feel kind of numb and/or negative about everything in my life.. I recognized a lot of my depression was hormone related/ physical so I'm wondering if BFing can contribute to mild depression as our bodies are so wonky with hormones...?
Anything you can add will help!
