Maybe he has to toot. My LO had trouble farting in the first couple months and she'd act really similar to what you're describing. I'd take her diaper off and bicycle her legs or wipe her bum and that usually helped get a toot and poo out and then she'd calm down.

@Danizaur: Ah yes, the lovely cluster feeding days. Right around 5-6 weeks it was about a 2 hr ordeal to feed her at night. It sucked, honestly. It actually made me want to quit BF-ing at that point. However, she started STTN at 6 weeks, and I definitely think her tanking up at the cluster feeds had something to do with it.

Hang in there! Get some netflix queued up! <3

I currently work afternoons at my office, when I get home, all my 10 week old wants to do is nurse, nurse, nurse....for nearly two hours straight. So you are not alone  .

Hang in there!! And just get cozy in bed... Makes the time go by much easier too.

This is going to sound annoying to you, but I kind of miss the cluster feeding days, when I could nurse the baby, watch TV, and eat snacks. Now, he nurses for 5 minutes and pops off, and it's back to chasing him around! They're lucky they're so stinking cute!

Totally normal at this age. Liam would nurse alllllll evening when he was a newborn. I remember balancing a plate on the nursing pillow so I could shovel my dinner in with one hand while he nursed.

I viewed my daughter's cluster feeding as what enabled her to sleep through the night (the good sleep just all of a sudden started happening at 11 weeks). When she eventually stopped sleeping through the night two months later, I was trying so hard to encourage cluster feed-like behavior in the hopes that she would sleep through the night again!

@Danizaur: I could have written this exact post. DD is 6.5 weeks and has been doing this EVERY evening for about 2 weeks now. It is exhausting. She will nurse and then get fussy, pull off the boob, and then want more over and over again. It's just an ongoing cycle of nursing, crying, burping, diaper changing, spitting up, clothes changing over and over again. its an ongoing process for about 3 hours at night, she will finally pass out at 11 pm. I dread nights. This kind of helped me understand it, and that it is normal!

Evening cluster feeding is very, very normal. It threw me for a loop at first too, but once I realized it was going to happen every night I just got myself set up with a bottle of water, some snacks and Netflix and just got comfy. It also helps to think that if you can get a lot of milk into them they might give you a good first stretch of sleep :)

@Danizaur: sounds like cluster feeding if it's just in the evening. I'm not sure how long it can last weeks to months I think. It's pretty common for newborns to want to nurse a lot in the evenings. And my son went thru a growth spurt at 3 weeks that lasted almost 2 weeks.

Update: this is still happening EVERY evening 8 days later. If it was a growth spurt wouldn't it have stopped by now? And it's only in the evenings. Luckily he stops by bedtime and does regular quick feedings during the night but nursing continuously for hours is killer!!!

Save me. :(

@Danizaur: Yeah, glad to hear and a 6 hour stretch that's great. My LO did the pulling off and popping on and still wanting to nurse when his teeth came in (it was another good 1.5-2m until they broke through at 4.5m).

What a cutie! Sounds like a growth spurt! Keep offering him the boob; he's helping to signal your body to make more milk. I remember when DS went through a growth spurt that young and it lasted like 7-10 days and he was wanting to nurse ALL day! Like he would finish and want to nurse 20-30 min later. It was exhausting but we got past it. You're doing a great job! Hang in there!
