lots of hugs. that sounds like my experience with LO #1. around 7 or 8 months i felt like it got much better and not stressful--we were past the newborn reflux/colic, the supply/demand issues after i went back to work, the distraction phase, etc. i never nursed in public because we weren't very "good" at it for a long time, and i didn't bother trying, even after it got better. i just soldiered through because i didn't know it could be any different (i mean, i knew that other people had better experiences but for me, that was all i knew at the time).

would you be up for exclusively or mostly pumping for a bit and then trying nursing again later to see if she gets past the tugging/pulling phase? or give yourself an option by setting a time limit for a nursing session, and then supplementing with pumped breastmilk or formula after the set time?

i don't have a lot of advice, just wanted to let you know that you're not alone.

Let me start to say that I BFed LO1 for 14 months and although I would have called it isolating at times, difficult at times but would never characterized it as utterly unpleasant as it is with LO2; which I have to add is 6.5 months old.

Until about 3.5 months LO2 was colic and would scream before and/ or during and/ or after most sessions (particularly evening). I had overactive letdown and she never relaxed or fell asleep BFing until at least 4 months. Starting around 4 months she has started pulling, tugging, popping on and off and whining during feedings (including and especially the last feeding of the day and the middle of the night). BFing is NEVER cuddley, warm or bonding :( I mourn the sleepy feeds and cuddles I had with LO1 and BFing is turning into more and more of a completely unpleasant thing. I want to continue because I strongly feel that nutritionally it's the best thing for her. But I guess I'm just looking for some support or suggestions on how to improve our BFing time?
