@sunshineandsushi: Oh wow! That would be great - how much do you want for it/how should we exchange contact info?

@meganmp: Thanks for the support and motivation that it can be done!

@Trailmix: Thanks for the advice! I hadn't heard of that pillow - I'll have to go check it out! :)

Also, I absolutely think the Twin-Z pillow is a MUST-HAVE for nursing, particularly if you're going to tandem nurse. Much more comfortable and user-friendly than the My Breast Friend twins one. And all the twin moms who I have recommended it to have sworn by it as well!

I essentially EBFd my twins (I opted to give one bottle of formula before bed in the deluded hope it would make them sleep longer) and it is doable BUT it is SO.MUCH.HARDER. It really puts the bulk of the work on you for the first year. In hindsight, I wish I would have done more like 75/25 in terms of BM vs formula and not been quite so determined to exclusively nurse.
That being said, I am really proud and happy with the nursing relationship I had with my twins for their first year and am very glad I stuck with it. It's super tough in the beginning but does get easier. I didn't read any books, just took a general BFing class before the babies arrived and then told myself I would just see how it went and try not to stress about it. I did lots of research once they arrived on how to increase supply and make sure the latch was good, etc. I also started tandem nursing right from the beginning since I did have a decent supply.
I think reading a book about nursing twins would be worth the investment, money-wise, since it will probably really help prepare you for what's to come. Good luck, you can definitely do it!

@meadow: I exclusively BF my twins! I second @twodoghouse: figure them each out, then start tandem feeding. I also didn't need any of the fancy pillows, I'm the crazy person that just used a Bobby. I was lucky and had a really good Supply, but my entire life revolved around my boobs. Breastfeeding, pumping, it takes up a lot of time. I would feed each kid, and then pump . Let me know if you have any questions!

I have that book if you'd like it. I breastfed in the beginning plus supplemented with formula due to supply issues. I ended up switching to EP at 4 weeks and was able to get my supply up. So I EP'd until my boys were one year old.

@LCTBQE: Thanks! I was all about half.com a decade ago and forgot entirely about it!! I'll go search on there - thanks :)

@avivoca: Thanks - I'll go back and read some of Mrs. Train's posts more specifically about BFing.

@twodoghouse: Thanks for your suggestion. I hope to be able to BF ...whether its EBF or BF + formula....I am starting to feel like I need to do "research" so I have more knowledge going into this adventure. Thank you for the advice about stimulating supply and pumping. I am so impressed that you are still BFing at 22 months!

Thanks again :)

I didn't read any books specifically about breastfeeding twins. My plan was to figure out how to breastfeed each one individually and get a good latch with each before introducing tandem nursing, but I know a lot of people start tandem nursing asap. (My sister is also a mom of twins and had fantastic supply. She started tandem nursing right away, but she didn't have some of the early struggles with latch that I had, nor the weight gain issues). I do think trying to exclusively breastfeed twins is awesome, but remember that you're going to be super exhausted and may just need a break from time to time. We supplemented with formula from day 4 on. My goal was to always put them to breast first to stimulate my supply, instead of substituting a bottle for an entire session. I also pumped starting at 24 hrs in the hospital and continued to pump after every nursing session whenever I could/had the energy for it. I'm still nursing my twins at 22 months. If you have any specific questions feel free to ask here or on my wall!

I know that Mrs. Train breastfed her twins and I think there is another Bee who breastfed her twins exclusively. As for the books, maybe a Half-Price books would have it for cheaper? You could also check it out from the library if they have it.

I was trying to find a good book/resource to have (25 weeks pregnant with my twins).

I read great reviews for this book:
"Mothering Multiples: Breastfeeding and Caring for Twins or More!" by Karen Kerkhoff Gromada

However, can only seem to find used copies for close to $30....seems like a lot.

Does anyone know if LLLI books are sold somewhere else? Am I missing something?

Or any other recommendations for a twin mom hoping to breastfeed?
