I've been sick for over a week and breastfeeding but today I feel especially crappy! My husband has the day off and LO is skipping daycare today and he wants me to just pump and sleep. Hmm...she probably won't wake up for a bit so I can decide! :-)

It's actually good to keep breast feeding if you have a cold because your breast milk will contain immunities that help the baby from getting the same cold. As your body fights it off, your milk will have more white blood cells than usual.

Definitely keep breastfeeding. Even if you need medication there are lots that are safe because the amount that enters your milk supply is tiny. (You can check the book by Dr. Thomas Hale).

I'd at least keep pumping, otherwise your at risk for clogs and mastitis if you just stop the normal schedule. If you're not taking any medication then LO is fine to still drink breastmilk even if mommas sick. Some medications are fine to take while breastfeeding, when I needed to go on an antibiotic they just made sure it was compatible with breastfeeding.

@autumnlove: I've been sick twice since I had my LO. I kept breastfeeding both times.

I have in the past. I had a really bad stomach bug for about 48 hours and nursed her. I would lay in bed and my husband would bring her in to eat every two hours and come get her when she was done.

They do say to keep on going....not unless you are taking some kind of medication that shouldn't be passed on. Also, I have heard that decongestants and maybe some other medications can dry up your supply, just an fyi! Hope you feel better soon!!

Haven't been there yet but I'd continue breast feeding. They say to keep going even if you're sick...

Do you breastfeed when you are sick? Or do you use pumped milk or formula during this time?
