I continued to nurse in early pregnancy but my LO decided he was done (he was 13m when he quit the before bed session and two weeks later he quit the first thing in the morning one). Also though I didn't plan on stopping beforehand I thought about it by 7 or so weeks along because it was a) getting really uncomfortable and b) it was really hard on my body.

@Keppa: this is where I'm at right now, 22-23 weeks pregnant and gritting my teeth when my two year old latches on! Miss A is so far happy to continue dry nursing but I may look at weaning over the next couple of months.

@lil owl: as far as I understand there is actually very little risk associated with nursing during pregnancy and there have been very few documented cases of harm or issues to either mother or child. I would imagine that as long as you're taking a quality prenatal vitamin and looking after your health then you'll most likely be fine!

I am 24 weeks pregnant and my 19 month old JUST decided to stop nursing last week. It's been tough emotionally because it was unexpected but good at the same time. I didn't do anything special.. He would just nurse between meals and then it decreased to twice a day to once and now nothing. CONGRATS on the baby!

I'm still breastfeeding my 27m old toddler and 15w pregnant with my 2nd. I was told at one of my first Dr appts that he would more than likely stop by the 5th month because of either changes to the milk taste or lack of milk. I was also told that he would need to stop by the 3rd trimester, in case of it leading to early contractions.

I keep hoping that he'll self wean...but he's a boob monster, so I think the chances of that are slim. I will say that it was fairly uncomfortable to nurse him in the early weeks of being pregnant, then it got much better, and now I'm to the point where I have to hold my breath when he latches. I'm still trying to decide if I'm going to keep letting him go on his path to self weaning, or if I'll need to cut him off within the next few months :/

First off, congratulations! Hoping this is a sticky baby for you

I don't really think the OB can not "let" you breastfeed. I mean, they can recommend you stop but there's not much they can do if you choose to continue. I know many women who have successfully breastfed through pregnancy.

I'm nursing my toddler (17.5 months) and I'm 8 weeks pregnant. I told my midwife that I was hoping he'd self wean but she said many babies do not. She did warn me that I might end up sort of hating breastfeeding (I think due to the nipple pain etc) but she didn't tell me I should stop.

Anyways just wanted to say congrats and good luck!! :goodluck:

Those of you who successfully breastfed through pregnancy: how did you do it? Did you do anything “special” or different then before? How often did you bf? Did you take anything to help you produce (more) milk?

First, I don't know if this pregnancy sticks...(I'm bleeding, will see ob tomorrow)
DS is almost 10 month old and although he eats a lot he's also a boobaholic. Sometimes he nurses only between solids, sometimes almost every 2 hours (and still eats a lot) and he nurses 2-5 times at night... He is really tall, like his dad
I suffered from HG with DSs pregnancy so I'm a little scared the ob won't let me bf during this pregnancy... But I really don't wanna stop.
