@mrbee: I haven't yet but had read that was an option. If after troubleshooting this is in fact my issue, I think I might give it a shot. I'm too nervous not to have a freezer stash.

@LAGS: Sawyer is not a huge fan of bottles. He took them when I had the stomach flu and got so dehydrated I (temporarily) stopped producing altogether. So when he is starving he will, but much prefers not to!

Wow thanks everyone! I'm really curious to test this out now.

@MungBean: omg... 1000+oz??? You poor thing :(

@MsMini: I didn't realize you had this happen! Thank goodness you could keep some of the milk! Is S taking bottles any better or is that another issue on its own?

@T-Mom: My LO has always been really bad with taking a bottle. It takes her forever and a lot of times she just pushes the nipple around her mouth and doesn't really suck... so I'm wondering if it just tastes bad from a bottle to her now.

@LAGS: yeah do some tests... Mine really didn't smell. I never kept a stash older than 3-4 weeks max just in case it started turning. LO didn't like it. He didn't reject but he didn't like.
@MungBean: @MsMini: Feel so bad that you guys had to dump so much. Wow.

Mine was like this, smelled fine but tasted like soap. Sawyer wouldn't touch it, so I kept thawing and tasting it to find if it ever tasted ok. I poured out hundreds of ounces of milk, but eventually the excess lipase stopped, so I was able to keep about 1/2 of my freezer stash.

@LAGS: I have the excess lipase issue :( My milk doesn't taste sour, but metallic-y. It has a slight metallic-y odor, too. I ended up not using my enormous freezer stash (1,000+ oz) b/c I felt bad feeding it to L :(

@sloaneandpuffy: I wondered this at first but tried the straight breast milk to be sure, it didn't smell but tasted way off.

@T-Mom: Hmm this has me wondering? I might do a few test runs trying milk that's been in the fridge over a day and another frozen bag to see what happens. Did yours have an odor? Did your LO flat our reject your frozen bottles?

The bag I tried was only 1.5 months old, so unless I truly goofed before freezing it, I don't think it went bad during the freezing process.

Could it be the combination of pear and milk? I've heard papaya and milk go sour after a short time.

How long has it been frozen? Maybe you have a high lipase issue http://kellymom.com/bf/pumpingmoms/milkstorage/lipase-expressedmilk/

I had his issue and my milk tastes like spit up (but not sour like yours?) after just a day in the fridge and I froze it. But if you leave it too long in the freezer it can go bad as well.

I just thawed some breast milk to mix with my daughter's oatmeal. I mixed it and some pears in and had a quick taste to see if it'd be at all tasty and was surprised that it tasted awful - so sour!

I immediately assumed it was the milk. I've never sampled my breast milk but figured now was the time to see if that was what made the cereal taste so bad and it definitely tasted sour. The weird thing is it had no odor.

Does breast milk normally taste sour? I'm assuming not, I thought it was supposed to be sweet. Can it go bad without smelling bad? I'm really paranoid about my frozen supply now. I can't imagine that it could have gone bad before me freezing it?

Really not looking forward to having to taste test all my frozen milk :(
