I follow the 24 hour rule as well, but I actually read that breastmilk does not go bad and is only bad if it smells as such. As long as the milk was refrigerated at a constant temperature it should be ok. The only thing is it may lose more nutrients over time, but at the occasional feed she should be fine.

I totally thought the thawed milk shelf life was 3 days! Yikes! HAHA. I've actually given my LO some thawed milk that was older than 24 hours. Good thing she gets her milk straight from the boob.. :P

Like owlmom said, 24 hours is the party line. However, I occasionally gave my babe milk that had been defrosted longer and he was fine. The first 12 hours or so that the milk is in the fridge it's still basically frozen!

I dont know about breastmilk specifically but in general when something is defrosted I try to consume it asap. I wouldnt want to leave it at fridge temp for more than a day

Everything I've read says to use thawed milk within 24 hours. I haven't tried to push beyond that limit, so I don't have any personal experience with more than 24 hour thawed milk. Could you give LO the defrosted milk earlier in the day and pump at the same time? Then you could use the pumped milk for the 2am feeding.

Can i give DD thawed breastmilk that has been in the fridge for more than 24 hrs? We put the frozen milk in the fridge to thaw last night at around 5pm but I'd like to give it to her at her 2am feeding tonight. So, the milk will be about 32hrs old.

Still okay?
