@agold: yeah I would too!

@Sams Mom: yes those are nice! I probably should have frozen the medela one that fits in the cooler bag but totally forgot to plan ahead. Definitely keeps it cooler.

@bhbee: I just left my pumped milk in a cooler with two ice packs inadvertently at my office over night. :bummed: But I'm still going to use them. Put them back in the fridge after getting to the office early yesterday. :shocked:

I also found the contour style ice pack/bricks to keep my BM colder on road trips and what not. I don't know if it's a common problem, so might not be worth it.

I don't remember where I got this guideline but I thought it was 12 hrs in an insulated cooler. In which case you'd be fine to put it back in the fridge and use for up to several days later. Since @peachykeen is citing 24 hrs I think you're super safe.

I would consider this to be an "insulated cooler" situation based on how you've described it, so I would say good for 1 day assuming the packs stay cold the whole time:

I’m not sure how to interpret the guidelines for this ...

I pumped this last night and refrigerated immediately. I took out of the fridge around 7am and have it in my (slightly insulated) backpack pocket with two rectangular ice packs. It doesn’t seem like it stays super cold but must be better than nothing.

How long do you think i can use it safely? I can’t refrigerate again until maybe 3pm but was hoping to save some of it beyond that.
