My story is more complex but I did have a c-section at 39 weeks.</p> <p>I do remember my OB and other doctors telling me that I needed to come in if I even had an inkling of labor because of the way my LO was breeched. He was transverse breech (some think of it hamock style) which meant nothing was in my cervix. The ECV was actually successful in that baby did flip to head-down, but of course the abrupted placenta was an emergency. I insisted on laboring for a while to see if I could deliver vaginally (as that had been the whole point to the blasted ECV!) but as the bleeding got heavier and I passed a huge clot it looked like my health might be in danger and labor wasn't progressing at all. Even though she had turned during the ECV her head wasn't engaged in the pelvis at all and my contractions were super sporadic and probably caused more by the water having broken and the irritation of all the blood from the abruption. So I had an emergency c-section but all ended well. She was 7.5 lbs even at 37 weeks and would have been a big girl if she'd baked til her due date!</p> <p>It is so interesting to read here that breech babies your water is more likely to break before your due date--it's a wonder everyone's water doesn't break during an ECV! Nothing. When I got to the hospital they only did an external exam and the nurse thought the baby had turned and was no longer breech. So they put me in s monitor and as soon as the contractions started I told her I had the urge to push. She pretty much laughed at me. When I kept insisting she finally checked down low and one foot was already out.<br /> That is when every body started running around and an emergency c section was supposed to come up next. That is crazy!! </p> <p>Sounds like most people go into labor with their water breaking. That's what happened to me with LO1 too. At least that way it is clear that it's time to get to the hospital! However it was really important to me that baby came out when he was ready, I really didn't like the idea of potentially pulling him out a few weeks before he was "ready". I convinced by OB to schedule the c-sec at 40 weeks. And then my water broke at 38! I didn't have a csection scheduled. I was still in denial and hoping he would flip. My water broke at 38 weeks in the middle of the night. I had one contraction (that was painful and could feel) during the few hours it took me to pack a bag and get to the hospital. For whatever reason I didn't feel like I should hurry even though when DH called labor &amp; delivery the first thing they asked him was a foot or anything hanging out of me. Ridic. Anyways... However, baby had other plans.<br /> At 36+2 my water broke. I went straight to the hospital. My doctor wanted me to call when contractions were 3-5 minutes apart and painful. I'm usually a very compliant patient, but I wouldn't have done that--I didn't want to labor that long just to go in for a c-section and be physically wiped out. My c-section was scheduled for 39 weeks and my water broke at 38 weeks. I hadn't expected that to happen at all so I totally panicked but was able to get ahold of my husband and pack a bag. We went to the hospital, and because I was clearly not in any type of active labor, they just kept me in triage with a monitor. No one gave me a single cervical check and we waited for 9 hours for an OR to clear for my emergency c-section. It was actually kind of boring. </p> <p>I have since heard from my OB and anectodally this is also true that your water is more likely to break and break earlier with a breach baby because they in an awkward position, but active labor is less likely to happen right away because they're not properly engaged in the pelvis. A friend found out her DD was breech around 38 weeks and they scheduled a C/S... then her water broke later that night and labor started right away. She was contracting and very uncomfortable and when she got to the hospital they took her to the OR pretty quickly. She was out of town (just 1.5 hours - her doctor had okayed it) and she labored all the way to 10 cms in the car.
