Either a gift card, or something cute/practical WITH a gift receipt.

Edited to add: If there is not something specific that you have in mind to give her (e.g. my aunt always gives people an onion chopper - it's her "thing") then I would say gift card. If you don't know her well, then simply picking something at random isn't likely to hit the nail on the head.

If they're already living together, they probably don't need anything that's off registry. After that I would much rather a gift card than something cute I don't need or doesn't fit my style.

For bridal showers and wedding gifts I love shopping at anthropologie for cute items for the home. It's off the registry and very well received by the bride.

@regberadaisy: If you have any favorite, unique kitchen tools, I would include those! Some my my most favorite gifts were off registry, things I didn't know existed, or were frivolous enough I felt silly putting them on my registry.

Or...a favorite cookbook?

It would depend how well I knew the bride and her taste. If I didn't know her well enough to know how she decorates her house/kitchen ect I would do a gift card. I know in most cases I would prefer a gift card and get something I really want or need than to get something that is cute to open but you don't have a place for it or it isn't your taste.

MIL & I are going in on a gift and getting a sauce pot off their registry. We have about $20 extra to spend on the gift. Would you prefer just a GC to the store or something "cute", but off registry, to go with?

The bride & groom are already living together in a home they own. This will likely be a huge shower yet there are only about 20 ish items on two registries, combined. So I'm thinking they *might* be hinting at $$? I don't know the bride that well since we're (DH's side) related to the MIL to be.

I'm leaning towards GC...but wanted to crowd source. :P Thanks!
