Yes, definitely. My LO was a week late and we were invited to a wedding 2 weeks later just as guests that we definitely weren't able to attend. It's just too much, too soon, especially if you're breastfeeding.

Personally I'd pass. You will have your hands full with a newborn.

I would step down. I missed a wedding 2 weeks before my due date because I felt terrible (and it was a long drive). And I feel awful about that. No use worrying about how awful it might be to not show as a bridesmaid!

My best friend's wedding was scheduled for 8 days after my due date, I ended up going a bit early with my LO - but we talked long beforehand and decided it would be best for me to only be an "honorary bridesmaid" since we didn't know how things would be at that time.
I will say that it was tough to watch her replace me with someone else, watch the girls go dress shopping without me, and do all that fun stuff....but in the end I know it was the right thing for her and for me.
I ended up bring my 12 day old LO to her wedding because it was important to me to be there. I still wish I could have been in her wedding, but that's just how things worked out!

I'd step down because there's a chance you'd go into labor then or be a freshly new mommy, and I'm not sure you want to be bm if you're sleep deprived and are milking machine!

thanks, ladies! i figured offering to bow out would be the best way to go.

now i just need to figure out how to word it, so she doesn't think i'm asking her to move the wedding date to accommodate me.

Id give her the option if it were me..... I guess it depends on how easy going she is though. For me I'd rather have my friend there if she's ok and feeling decent, but I'd understand if you couldn't be there last minute. And as a bride I'd like to make that decision rather than you say you're not doing it no matter what. But if It's someone who's not ok with last minute changes..... It might be best just to say no.

I'd say definitely you will not be up to being a bridemaid - you won't be able to give her the attention and energy she deserves on the day of the wedding even if you are able to attend. Plus (vanity here) no way would I want that many pictures of the way I looked a week or two post partum!

I was invited to a dear friend's wedding a week after I gave birth (two weeks after the due date). I might have been up to attending if the wedding had been local, but it was a 2.5 hour drive, and I couldn't manage it.

I would probably bow out. I would probably have been fine in a wedding in the few weeks before LO was born, but there's no way you can really plan for labor to start. There's absolutely no way I could have been in a wedding 1-2 weeks after LO was born. Not even a chance.

I delivered on the wedding date I was asked to be in a wedding. She was the first person I told about the pregnancy (before my parents!!!!) as I bowed out as my EDD was a week from her wedding date. Broke my heart, and we cried.....but she understood of course, and now we share a special date forever.

i don't have personal experience to draw upon, but being in a wedding 1-2 weeks after giving birth, or being 1-2 weeks past your due date with labor impending at any time sound extremely difficult and anxiety-producing, so i would personally offer to bow out of the actual wedding but still offer to participate in pre-wedding activities and to be a support in general for her wedding planning. it's up to you, though--that's a tough decision!

I would if I were you. I know that it stinks but you could be delivering during her wedding! Or if you have the baby by the delivery date. You aren't going to want to leave your 2 week old all day for bridesmaid duties all day.

I mean if this is your first baby you might go past your due date by an additional week or more so you should be fine, but I personally would rather step down and not have to deal with wedding stress so close to the due date

back in the spring, my good girlfriend asked me to be a bridesmaid in her wedding, and i accepted (duh!). and i told her that we were likely going to ttc some time soon.

anyway, last month she said they were looking to schedule the wedding for late july, a whole 6 weeks past my due date. so i figured i'd be in the clear and could hold off on telling her that we were pregnant.

we're meeting for dinner tomorrow night, so we're planning to tell them our news over dinner. but uh oh, she just emailed me this morning to say that they are looking at a different venue, and are leaning towards an earlier date -- either 1 week or 2 weeks right after our due date. eeks!

we're still going to tell them over dinner tomorrow, but my question is ... should i offer to bow out as a bridesmaid?
