I agree with changing the bulbs that can really change the "tint" of a room. Make sure you go as "cool" of a bulb as you can.

@avivoca: in the middle most cavernous portion there's two flush mount fixtures. I think the covering may be some kind of frosted glass or plastic. Changing just the bulbs may or may not help, but I think each fixture holds two. The room should be much brighter.

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: What about the light fixture in the bathroom? The color of the shade can really affect it. We have 60W bulbs in our ceiling fan in the living room but if we put the shade on you can't tell because it's super frosted.

LO's bathroom is BM avocado green. It's much smaller than the J&J, but doesn't feel like all the life has been taken out of the room when the doors are shut like in LO's.

@looch: Alright, I'm going to try out different bulbs first.

@MrsLonghorn: Pintetest makes a good case for white w/ gray tile!

LOVE our white bathrooms.
All of our bathrooms are bright white (SW Snowbound) with different variations of gray/white tile.

For DS, we add fun color via towels, cups, trash can, shower curtain...things that can easily be changed out for different styles as he grows.

I am not sure I'd go white with the colors you're currently describing for the fixtures.

Is the issue the lighting? Maybe you can change the bulbs and get bright white instead of soft white?

Well, we have a white floor in our prefer room and I want to take a sledgehammer to it but if your floor isn't white I think you'll be fine! Everything wipes down so easily but between a dog, a toddler, and being right inside the entry way that floor makes it look like the whole room is filthy all the time!

Does anyone regret their bright white bathroom?

We are getting the house painted next week and I have a couple rooms including a windowless Jack & Jill bathroom that I still need to pick colors. The J&J is like a galley bathroom the tile is tan/ dark beige and is on the floor and in the shower/tub only. The sink areas are Java cabinets and beige/gray/black speckle granite. I am tempted to paint the three adjoining bathroom spaces BM Simply White (bright) or BM Swiss Coffee (creamy white & will be the main living space color). The overhead lighting in the middle part (toilet/tub/shower) is dingy or at least with the current khaki beige color makes the space look dingy. That will probably need to be switched out too or maybe the paint will brighten it up a enough.

Is white the way to go?
