I think the covering may be some kind of frosted glass or plastic. Changing just the bulbs may or may not help, but I think each fixture holds two. The color of the shade can really affect it. The J&amp;J is like a galley bathroom the tile is tan/ dark beige and is on the floor and in the shower/tub only. The sink areas are Java cabinets and beige/gray/black speckle granite. I am tempted to paint the three adjoining bathroom spaces BM Simply White (bright) or BM Swiss Coffee (creamy white &amp; will be the main living space color). The overhead lighting in the middle part (toilet/tub/shower) is dingy or at least with the current khaki beige color makes the space look dingy. That will probably need to be switched out too or maybe the paint will brighten it up a enough.</p> <p>Is white the way to go? </p>
