Not sure if we're going to have DD come to the hospital or not. I think it will depend on how long I need to be there for.

I'm hoping and praying for a smooth delivery so we can leave after 24 hours. I plan on having my sister or mom here with our LO. She'll be 21 months old.. and we don't plan on having her come to the hospital.
If I have to stay for more than 24 hours we'll have her come and DH may end up going home.

@umlo: Yeah, she did great! She loves my parents, so them visiting was like a special treat for her. After spending all morning at the hospital, she was happy to go back home for lunch (I'm pretty sure my mom let her eat mac & cheese every day) and a nap. In the afternoons, they went to the park to play (except for one day when they came back to the hospital), and then DH would come home to put her to bed after dinner. So I don't think she ever really realized we weren't home with her; daddy was there to put her to bed and to get up with her first thing in the morning.

@honeybee: thanks so much for sharing your action plan. for some reason I didnt take into account I may give birth during the workday! (baby brain strikes again!)

wow! your hubby was a trooper to do all that back-and-forth! I was thinking along the same lines of what we may need to do with our situation, just so LO won't freak out. Was your LO okay with going back home after seeing you in the hospital?

Our plan: Call my parents after #2 was born; they live about 5 hours away, so while they were driving up, our friends would watch DD at our house. We were hoping to only be in the hospital for 12 hours after #2's birth, so we would only be away from home one night.

What actually happened: I went into labor during the work day, so we went to the hospital, and our best friends picked DD up from daycare. They fed her and got her ready for bed, and DH went home to put her to sleep. He got back to the hospital about 30 minutes before I started pushing/1 hour before DS was born. He stayed in the hospital that night (our friends stayed at our house, and my parents got a hotel room) and DH got up the next morning at 5 so he could be back before DD woke up in the morning. He brought her to the hospital first thing in the morning, and my parents took her back to the house about 4 hours later for lunch and her nap. Unfortunately, we had to stay in the hospital a couple extra days, so every night DH would go put DD to bed, come back to the hospital for the night, and then go back home early in the morning before DD woke up. DH would bring DD to the hospital in the morning, and my parents would take her back to the house at lunchtime. Once, my mom also brought her in the afternoon, but usually they just stayed home after lunch.

Hi all, I am now getting around to thinking about preparing for #2 arrival who may arrive any day now (my poor 2nd child). :)

Curious to know how others handled the hospital stay with LO at home with family. Did your SO stay with you at the hospital or go home every night to be there for LO? Did you bring LO to the hospital to introduce the siblings or waited till you got home?

Right now our LO is acting out (she knows her little sibling is coming) and we are thinking she may regress in her sleeping knowing that mom is at the hospital with baby. My mother, who is LOs best friend, will be there with her but we have a big feeling she may give her grandma a hard time. Of course, she may surprise us and be a trooper and put all these silly worries to bed, which i hope. Any thoughts or advice?
