My LO only uses a pack and play for traveling. Had never used one at home. She sleeps just fine in one while traveling. I wouldn't want to be packing that much stuff.

My husband swears by the Lotus backpack straps (he always does it as a carry-on)! We bought it for consistency and peace of mind, it's what LO always sleeps in when we travel (even to grandparents), one less thing to worry about.

My kid won't sleep in s PNP. They are uncomfortable.,..I could see her point, tgere is a metal.bad running down the middle. Once we got the travel crib her sleep on the go was normal.

Granted, not everyone's child is like this, but since DD hadn't been sleeping in a PNP since birth, that contributed.

You're using the hotel and AirBnB beds, right? Not bringing an air mattress? If that's the case, then I would use the supplied PnPs.

Once we went away and they actually had a real crib! Small but real and he slept great. He was about 1.5.

Around 8 months though (first time at a hotel) we only had a Pnp and he struggled falling asleep and got up early. It was only one night though.

A couple weeks ago we went to a hotel and used their "crib". It was a Pack n play.. But he went to sleep instantly and slept all night. Got up a bit early. He is almost two so he didn't have much room in it.

Thanks for the input, all! I'm still undecided ... but it's helpful to hear different perspectives + thoughts!

I left out some info earlier -- we were able to purchase a seat for LO (DH's work is paying for his ticket so we splurged + I wasn't super comfortable with the idea of possibly nursing next to someone) so his infant seat is coming on the plane with us. And thanks to my Delta Amex, we can have up to 3 pieces of checked luggage free. I didn't think of checking the Lotus ... perhaps? AGH!!!

But yes @madison43 - pack mule(s), indeed!!

I always bring my travel crib. You just never know what your going to get on the other end. Yes, it's a lot of crap to drag around, but I've accepted that as our fate when traveling with small kids. My husband refers to himself as our "pack mule" :silly:

We have the Lotus and we bring it everywhere with us. It's gone to Vegas, Florida, and Europe. It's really easy to carry in the airport on your back like a backpack and lightweight. We've always checked it since the baby gets one piece of checked luggage and that worked for us. Could you check your luggage and the crib and then gate check the car seat? I preferred using our crib because he's used to it and i knew he'd sleep in it. We use just regular crib sheets with it.

We just used the hotel pnp and brought our own sheets each time we've traveled. Bringing your own crib is such a pain.

@catlady: same here. If a PNP is available, we don't bring our travel crib.

You might even have to pay to check it, depending on what you are already checking and if you get any free checked bags or not.

We have always just used the hotel crib or pack and play when we have traveled and it's been fine. The only time we have brought one is when one wasn't available. I have never regretted leaving ours home.

I would bring it if the only option at the hotel is a PnP. We are flying out tomorrow too and will be renting a crib at the place we are staying at (and bringing our own sheets). If that weren't an option, I would bring our own portable crib.

Buy Buy Baby sells "PortaCrib" sheets. I got the standard sheets and the waterproof ones with a bit of padding and used them both together. They worked great for us. We just used them this weekend.

We are taking our first trip as a fam of 3 tomorrow (ha! serenity now) - DH, myself + our 8 month old flying from MA to SoCal. We're debating whether or not we will bring our travel crib (Guava Lotus). In an ideal world, we'd bring it --my argument is that we bought it for trips like this! But we're traveling with quite a bunch of stuff - two suitcases, umbrella stroller, car seat, etc. And the kicker is that the Airbnb + hotel we're staying in have pack n plays available.

Our little guy has never seen a pnp and I'm worried that he won't sleep or nap in one. He's slept successfully in the Lotus before (though it has been awhile). My concerns for the pnp are size, comfort, cleanliness - and the paranoid thought that the hotel will say "whoops" even though we've requested it in advance. :silly:

I'd hate to not bring the Lotus and regret it ... but also hate to bring it and not use it at all! Gah! Any tips from parents who have traveled before with their LOs would be appreciated!!
