A local theater offers free mommy and me movie days and I totally plan on taking full advantage of that during my maternity leave!

Nothing near us :( But that's nothing new! Haha I am such a city girl or at least large suburbs but for now we live in a smaller area with not much like that around. DD doesn't watch tv yet though anyways but I think it's a cool idea

I've been to mommy matinees with friends in the past, they have a bumch of them every week in NYC. One I went to on the UES was great because they had lower noise levels, more lighting and changing tables set up along one side. Plus there was the social aspect which was pretty good.

Ive always taken my lo to movies ever since she was weeks old. Then again she has always been such an easy baby and she was and still is very quiet and well behaved in public places.

Eta: I generally put her ear muffs or something on her to muffle the noise.

the whole thing with mommy matinees is that the noise level is reduced and the theaters increase the lighting a little bit too.

my girlfriend and i are going to one later this week at a local indie theater with our babies. i'd love to go to the AMC ones, but they are on Tuesdays and my 4 yo is off from school.

@Mrsbells: Yeah, that's what I'd worry about- the noise level.

When I visited a friend in michigan she could take her baby to the theatre any day she wanted as long as it was in the day time and not evening or night. She took her 5 month old but I dont think he liked how loud it was

I'd love to attend a mommy matinee, I love going to the movies. I don't think we'd be able to make it through one now though, my son's too mobile and unless it was about Thomas the Train or Teletubbies, there's no way he's sitting through it!

LO would never make it through a movie. I'd just have to spend the whole time entertaining her and it wouldn't be fun for me. My BIL used to bring his baby to the movies and she'd nap right through it. Crazy!

It's interesting. It's a great option for moms, but I've never been interested in taking DS to the movies. Of course that means that we also haven't been to the movies in the last 14 months either. But I know myself and I'd be frustrated if/when I missed parts of the movie because DS or another LO was crying. I'd rather wait for it on DVD and be able to watch it after DS is in bed, or at least be able to pause it.

Click this link to see if a theater near you is participating. On certain days, you are welcome to bring your baby to the movies with you. Now you can see the Hunger Games when it comes out. :-)
