Usually in my field we have between two - three interviews and at the last interview the employer usually will tell you the salary and if you would like to accept. I always ask if I could think about it and if I could get back to them by the end of the week (if the interview is early in the week) or on Monday (if its towards the end of the week). But, my husband interviews people very regularly for his medical office and his biggest thing is when people bring up pay too early, some people even bring it up at first interviews. If you bring it up sooner, it may influence whether they make an offer or not. Once they have offered the job and you know they want you, you have the upper hand in salary negotiations.</p> <p>Since there are several positions, they may be trying to decide which one would be the best fit before they bring up specifics like salary and benefits.</p> <p>ETA: If they make an offer, tell them you appreciate the offer but would like to think it over/talk it over with DH/get back to them. And definitely be willing to counter their offer and ask for a higher salary or more benefits (i.e. extra PTO, etc). That is my opinion.<br /> Unless you are have been offered an actual job, then I wouldn't think that door is open.</p> <p>eta: another thing is: if they were teetering between you and someone else, and you bring it up and say "well, I am interviewing so I'd like to compare offers" then you pretty much just made the decision for them. There are several positions available and they all pay slightly different. I got a call about a second interview scheduled for next week</p> <p>If they don't bring up salary, is it ok for me to do so? I have interviewed other places and if I get lucky (doubtful but who knows) and get multiple offers, salary would definitely be a factor in my decision. </p> <p>I've read its taboo to ask unless they bring it up, but maybe that's only in the first interview?? </p>
