@looch: That is good to know!

@mdf106: That's my biggest reservation with the Safety 1st is the size...it looks mammoth, and while I think my car can handle it, it might not even fit in my husband's small Subaru.

I have the Safety 1st, and I don't like it. It was very hard to install rear facing (I have not tried forward facing). I was also only barely able to get it sufficiently reclined for the over 22 pound level.

The front passenger seat has to be pushed up so far it is virtually unusable (Nissan Frontier).

I never tried to put it on a plane.

No issues with head positioning.

I think it will be adequate when I switch to forward facing. I would recommend the Britax Boulevard. I only got the Safety 1st because it is capable of rear facing for longer, and my LO tall. However, I think either way he would make it to 2 years.

The Britax has Click Tight technology, which is a great way to use the belt for installation, I highly recommend it, especially since a lot of people don't realize that LATCH has limits. It's also great for installing in a rental car or moving between cars because I know I can always get a tight fit.

We have the boulevard and have no complaints. I can't answer most of your question because we use it in an SUV and don't move it. We just bought a second seat for our other car. My husband did say it was easy to install. My LO is 7 months old and sleeps fine in it. His head doesn't droop.

We have the Safety 1st seat and so far love it.

-installation - just reading the manual it was difficult to get it installed. we went to a car seat inspection station and they showed us how to install easily and properly and now my husband feels very comfortable moving it from my car to my moms car when needed.

- Small cars - ours fits just fine in my Kia Soul. The seat is RF behind my passenger seat and it is a little tight if i have a passenger but it works. Most days its just me and baby going to and from home and daycare/work. We have another Safety first seat (eddie bauer from target) that is in my husbands forrester and it is a little smaller he has it comfortably behind the driver seat.

- Travel - we havent had to travel with the seat so no experience with this

- Head positioning - my kid is a peanut and we started using the seat when she was 10 months and only about 18 lbs. we had to position the seat per the weight recommendation and use a rolled up towel to get the right angle. it also helps to make sure the chest clip is always high up on the chest as it helps to stabilize the spine.

I have no complaints about our choice of seat and i think i got it on sale at Babies R us - reg price is around $170

We have had a lot of Britax (replaced after several accidents :( ) and we have one Evenflo as a grandparent extra. So while I can't speak to the one that you are toying with, I can say that every model of Britax we have used has been so easy to install. In one accident our kids were in the car (it was the biggest one, with both vehicles written off) and the kids were both totally, 100% fine and barely shaken up.
We found that they do take up a lot of space while still rear facing, but that is almost unavoidable! And I found that (when rear facing, as things change when they are FF and more upright) were super comfy in it. It was like a huge lounge chair for a little body!
Good luck with your decision!

@lamariniere: Thank you for the information! I think I'm leaning towards the Boulevard, and it's good to hear it's flight approved.

I am by no means an expert since we only use ours when we rent cars, but we have the Boulevard and have been happy with it. My husband is the one who installs it and it seems to be pretty easy (we are traveling with it this week). It is flight approved and we have brought it on a few international flights and it fits in the seat (front facing, no idea if you could do a rear facing seat on a plane). My older LO can sleep in it without his head flopping, but we just switched our younger LO to that seat (and she is a peanut) and her head flops when she sleeps. As for rear facing in a small car...when we moved to France 2 years ago we were in a small car and couldn't RF and have the passenger be comfortable, so we FF when DS was 14 months. But "small" is relative when it comes to cars, we were using a Renault, which is probably smaller than a small car in the US market.

We are moving our LO into a convertible carseat next month and eyeing either the Britax Boulevard or the Safety 1st Complete Air 70. If anyone on here owns either and could tell the following, it would be much appreciated!

- Ease of installation and moving it between cars

- Does it fit comfortably in a small car (with the understanding the front seat has to be moved up)

- Does it fit on a plane seat, or is it too big? This is my fear with the Safety 1st, and we travel a lot.

- Does your child's head "flop" in either one while napping? I know that might be unavoidable, but I'm curious.
