I have a chicco nextfit. LO is tall with a tall torso, and he outgrew his infant seat at 9 months (only 29 inches, but one inch from top of shell). It is good for fitting into smaller cars, it has a lot of reclines. I think the graco mysize is also good for that. I did not consider the foonf because of price, and the Diono radian did not appeal to me. Tightening the harness can be tough, but I have the old shoulder pads, and the new ones are supposed to be better. It was really easy to install.

We have a tall kid and a Pavilion and I love it. No height issues.

If you want a good comparison, check out the Lucie's List guide to convertible seats. It has a thorough discussion of many brands and lists the differences between each Britax seat.

We have the pavilion. We loved our britax infant seat and the britax convertible fits well in the back of our Prius. We also like the extra side impact and safety features of britax.
I believe the only difference between the pavilion and the less expensive model is the "click" noise it makes to tell you that the straps are tight enough. I didn't think it was necessary but the sales guy at bbb totally convinced DH and now I'm so glad we got it. I love that when LO is being antsy and fighting being put in the seat that I know when it's tight with one quick pull.

I have a Foonf because dd is tall and we want to RF as long as possible. I love love love it.

My mom has a Britax Pavillion in her car and I find it a giant PITA. The snug straps are annoying to tighten and she sits so low in it.

Thanks for all the info. If you had a tall kid what would you reco for a convertible car seat? My DS is in the 80% in height.

Side note, anyone have experience with the Recaro?

@MoonMoon: we have a diono radian RXT and it may get us to 4. You will definitely need the angle adjuster though. Another would be the Graco my size/head wise/fit4me.

I love them and we have 2 Blvds and 2 Marathons. My LO is on the shorter side and she is still RFing at 2.5 with plenty of room to go.

@tinyperson: @Mrs. Yoyo: sorry to threadjack, but which convertibles are best for tall kids? My LO is pretty tall, but I'd love to keep him rear-facing as long as possible. My car is fairly small (Honda civic)

I was able to rearface my average sized kid in a Boulevard until 30 months, so when we switched him forward facing and put him into a harness to booster seat.

We have the marathon and love it! DH and I are very short though so we weren't worried about the short shell. I especially love that there's no re threading of the straps! That was the selling point for me!

We had the Marathon. I think it's the best blend of safety and value of all of them unless you want really giant side protection wings, which some kids hate.

It's easy to use. But we actually had to get another one to keep our very tall-torso son RF past 21 months. So if you want to rear-face until after 2 and have a tall kid, look elsewhere.

If your DS is on the tall side, they're not recommended if you want to rear face past 2 (2 is the new recommended age to rear face). They have a short shell, so they don't last with taller kids. That's all I know about them (we didn't get a Britax).

Which kind of Britax convertible car seat do you have??
Is it the Marathon, roundabout, pavillion, advocate, or boulevard?

How do you like it (would you recommend it?)? Any pro's or con's?

The Marathon is on sale at Kohl's and my DS getting close to needing a convertible car seat.
