@MerryC: thanks! That's very helpful. I think I need to find both in store and see if maybe they'll let me place it in our car. LOL

We have used the seatbelt install and its super easy. You just thread it under the seat. My husband does it in about 2 minutes

I think the only difference btwn the rxt and 120 is the headwings.

We've never owned britax seats, but I find the dionos very easy to install. They have the superlatch connectors that I find much easier than the normal latch buckles. We haven't done a seatbelt install, but it goes through the same tunnel path at the bottom of the seat that the latch band does, it's simple enough.

The radians are narrower profile than a lot of other seats. We've had them installed on both sides of the backseat and I sat in the middle comfortably in a number of different vehicles. If you want to put one in the middle, you will either need to make sure your vehicle has middle seat latch anchors (many only have them on the sides) or will need to do a seatbelt install for the middle seat anyway.

@looch: I think so. I think the point I'm trying to make is that these numbers could change this year for both cars and car seats to reflect new guidelines. So, it's something to think about if one seat is easier to install with a seatbelt than the other is.

@looch: Based on Diono RXT's manual for forward facing its up to 20-80 lbs and rear facing its 5-45.

@Weagle: I think we're saying the same thing.

I have a Toyota. If you look at the vehicle guidelines, it says they defer to the seat manufacturer. I have Britax, they say 40 pounds, weight of child. Not sure if you would come to the same conclusion or not knowing these bits of info?

@looch: The guidelines will be standardized for all seats beginning in 2014 to reflect the combined weight limits. So, even if you had a 20lb child and a 45lb seat you would need to switch. From what I understand, seats won't even be tested with latch beyond the 65lb range.

@bunnylove08: I looked here, using the car seat manufacturer guidelines, not the vehicle. Looks like it's 48 pounds weight of child.

@Weagle: I think there are two sets of guidelines, one is vehicle specific, the other is seat specific. I've checked on Car seats for the littles, when your LO is 40 pounds and in a Britax seat, you need to go to seatbelt install. I chose to use the lower of the two limits.
I have no idea where the Diono seats fall, as I have two Britax seats myself.

@looch: It's not just the seat's LATCH guidelines, but also anytime the combined weight of the seat and child is 65+ lbs.

I think the older Dionos didn't have built in lock offs, making a belt install kind of tough, but they may have changed that.

Ok, so are you familiar with the LATCH weight restictions?

With a Britax seat, when your kid is 40 pounds, you must use a seatbelt to install the seat, you can not use LATCH. I don't know what the rules are for the Diono brand. Britax has a super easy way to use the seatbelt to secure the seat, it basically goes behind the back rest, under the padding. How does the Diono install and what are the weight limits for using LATCH?

@locavore_mama: From what I read the RXT has head wings and the R120 doesnt.

The RXT does fit three across

We went with the RXT because of the wings and it was highly rated

Thoughts?

It will be for LO #1 when #2 is ready to switch to a convertible so I'm not concerned about RF.

They claim Radian R120 fits 3 across does the RXT not? What's the biggest difference between the R120 and RXT?

The biggest difference from the Frontier and Radian to me right now is the Radian is FAA certified whereas the Frontier is not. But honestly, I really don't see a ton if any flying in our future.

Our convertible right now is Britax Marathon so I am concerned about being able to seat a passenger comfortably with another seat in the back. But I'm wondering if that's a pipe dream in any vehicle unless we go to a minivan?
