Replace screen DIY?

http://www.macworld.com/article/2045639/diy-ipad-screen-replacement-it-saves-money-but-its-not-for-the-faint-of-heart.html

DH needed to repair the power and volume buttons on his iPhone, and he ended up buying a kit online and fixing it himself for about $10. It is very scary to open it up, but there are a lot of video tutorials online. It'll save you a lot of money, and your iPad will be back in working condition.

I love my mac book air but it is at a very different price point than an iPad.

Do you own a real computer at home? If so then maybe you could get another tablet and use the computer when you need a keyboard.

Otherwise there are some really budget friendly laptops out there now.

I dropped my iPad a few days ago. This time without the case fully on and it shattered  Since the price of fixing it is so high, I'm thinking about either replacing it or taking the plunge and finally getting a new laptop (maybe an ultrabook).

I know an iPad is different from a laptop, but I'm curious to hear recommendations. I was really attached to my iPad, but I wish it was lighter and still preferred a pc when it came to things like shopping and anything that required a lot of writing, so I'm guessing an ultrabook might bed a good fit.

Love your iPad, iPad Air, Macbook Pro, Macbook Air or other ultrabook? Please share why
