@cake2017: You will have a blast!

I forgot to mention, in my experience Clinton Street is the best place to find an available taxi.

And make sure you walk the promenade at sunset or later. So magical!!! Have fun!!

My favorite place!

I just spent a weekend there earlier in July. I agree with everyone's suggestions above- promenade, walking around the fruit streets, Brooklyn Bridge Park, getting Italian pastries on Court Street (Monteleone's and Court St. Pastry).

We grabbed dinner at La Vara on Henry Street around 8pm on a Friday night. We didn't have a reservation (although I believe they take reservations), and it was *delicious*
(Spanish tapas)! I highly recommend it if you're looking for a charming restaurant on a beautiful street without a crazy long wait.

And I absolutely love Lucali's for pizza, but that does have a crazy long wait.

@cake2017: just moved away after 11 years of living there! walk east past Cadman Plaza and you're in prime Brooklyn Heights which is the nicest neighborhood in Brooklyn--the fruit streets, Henry and Hicks are wonderful for just walking around. There's nowhere to eat there, though--you have to go south from there to get to the good restaurants which are all in Cobble Hill and Carroll Gardens. I *love* Colonie on Atlantic and Henry, it is so delicious. Much further down Court Street (this would be a long walk down to Carroll Gardens but totally doable in summer) are Frankie's, Buttermilk Channel, and Prime Meats, which are all great. Also on Atlantic Avenue is French Louie which is one of my favorites. The restaurants that teawithpaloma recommended are all great but they're all on the water in DUMBO--they're perfect for after a walk on the promenade but not accessible to any of the other neighborhoods. (and I'd add Juliana's pizza to her list!). The Botanical Gardens are nice and right by Prospect Park, which I really love but I think as a tourist I might feel like is slliiiiighhtly a poor-man's Central Park. Fort Greene is on the other side of Flatbush Avenue and is a gorgeous neighborhood with terrific restaurants--my favorite brunch of all time is at Olea. That's across the street from where they hold the Brooklyn Flea. Have fun!

ETA almost every single restaurant that I or anyone else listed is a place that has insane waits unless you go at a weird time or get there before opening.

I like just walking around- Carroll Gardens/Brooklyn Heights are so cute. Grab sandwiches at a court Street grocers and stop into one of the Italian bakeries for cookies! Also walk along the Brooklyn heights promenade, so pretty.

I am just trying to understand how you didn't find a lot about what to do in Brooklyn on the internet! :silly:

Grimaldis, Shake Shack, Vinegar Hill House, River Cafe (basically perfect if you are going without kids), all for eating.

Go to the Brooklyn Museum if the weather is bad. You can easily spend a few hours there. I have heard great things about the Transit Museum but have not gone there myself.

Outside: Brooklyn Flea, Walk Brooklyn Bridge (early or late to avoid blistering sun and crowds), Brooklyn Bridge Park and Brooklyn Heights Promenade, Prospect Park, and Botanic Gardens. I don't think you'll get bored.

If you want other neighborhoods I would recc Red Hook or Williamsburg for exploration. Of course, easy subway ride or walk across the bridge into Manhattan.

Are you at the Marriott at the BK Bridge? If so, that's a great area - i have friends that live in the Park Slope/Prospect Park area which is close! Prospect Park is gorgeous, theres a nice museum in there and there are farmers markets, etc.

The Brooklyn Flea is really fun, and there are some great local food options:
http://brooklynflea.com/

If you want to do something I consider SOOOO Brooklyn (haha) you should go play shuffleboard at this spot that is super close to your hotel:

https://www.royalpalmsbrooklyn.com/

There are SO MANY good restaurants, it's hard to narrow down... just google and you'll find whatever you feel like eating! :)

Hi!

We are traveling this weekend w/out LO. Any suggestions for food near the Marriott? Anything that is worth visiting? I didn’t find much on the internet. Weve been to Manhattan several times. Just a weekend trip- we are there for a conference ! Any nice neighborhoods to walk or parks... I know weather isn’t the best but just in case! Is it easy to find a taxi in that area? We haven’t used Uber do prefer to stick with the taxis. TIA
