I think it can stay on the buckle but we have had her remove it and keep it in one of her cup holders, she just grabs it when she needs it. I am going to attach it to something with a ribbon one of these days. I need something to help my six year old release herself from her carseat when I can't get to her to help (like in the carpool line). I'm wondering if people who have used these tools thought they worked, and if one is "easier" for a child to use than the other. I read the reviews on TCSL; she didn't have an opinion, really. </p>
