I never find the time to come online! Glad DD is ok. It sucks when they hurt themselves so badly. When DS broke his leg it was at night and we didn’t realize how bad it was. We put him to bed and the next day he couldn’t walk. It was a huge pain for us because he wasn’t allowed to weight bare for 10 days. He had a solid cast for 5 weeks but after the first 10 days was up running around on it. He walked funny for a bit when it came off but there was no lasting damage. We didn’t even realize it for two days. They gave her a hard cast and she was in that for 3 weeks. It sucked but we got through it and there’s never been any residual issues. She had a fibreglass cast for two weeks (not waterproof, so we were paranoid about keeping it dry). After the first few days she was pretty much back to her normal level of physical activity, and once the cast was off she was a bit hesitant to use it for a day or two, but soon was back to her normal active self. I would ask about a waterproof cast if it’s available; we weren’t offered that option and I didn’t think to ask.<br /> As far as healing, we were told that it actually takes about a year for the bone to fully heal, but no further treatment is usually needed after the cast comes off. Was it huge? DD has an apt with an ortho tomorrow but the thing they put on her last night at the ER is huge and not water proof... plus it's her writing hand too. It was casted for 3 weeks and he just got it off a week ago. He's still working on walking correctly again because it wasn't casted at a 90 degree angle and so his achilles tendon is pretty contracted. Over all, there wasn't a lot of impact. Little kids are generally pretty adaptable and resilient.
