I probably spent $450-$500 by the time I bought decorations, food, and drinks for 40 people. I mean beer alone was $100.

For DD2's 1st bday we have a budget if $200. I'm thinking of just doing brunch so that should be easy to do.

I have no clue for DD1. It's her 3rd and all the party venues here are SO EXPENSIVE! We went to one of her school friends and we loves it so much until I saw the $3000 price tag for 15 kids !?!?!?!

I'm hoping to keep it max $500. Ughh.

@regberadaisy: I"m sort of thinking brunch food. I make really good breakfast casseroles. I was thinking two egg/cheese/sausage casseroles and two french toast ones. Fresh fruit. Bagels and cream cheese. Maybe some muffins or a few quiches (my mom would probably make those because she likes making broccoli cheese quiche). For drinks I was thinking of a coffee/hot chocolate station with our Keurig and then doing a lemonade and some sort of alcoholic drink like sangria or maybe mimosa (we use cheap champagne lol). And I'll make cupcakes for us (I use box mix bc it tastes good, and make my own frosting-- comes out cheap!) and I plan to make a modified banana bread-ish cake for LO's smash cake. It's entirely possible I'll do evites (or even just call people!) since it will just be our families and a few close friends. And I don't really plan to do much in the way of decor. I'm not pinterest-y in that way and it annoys me to spend money on things that will only be used for one day. Probably some balloons and streamers or something. :)

@Mae: I would love to see how you keep it under $150 for 20 adults! We cooked all our food, served beer and DIY'ed. Granted we had A LOT of food and came out to roughly $12pp. I am thinking about a 3rd birthday party but can't spend $400 again especially with DD2's first birthday just a few months later.

Anyway, I love party budget posts so please come back and share!

I'm planning J's third birthday right now. The venue includes tables, chairs, tablecloth and paper products- plus invites for $160. It's at an indoor park so there is a ton for the kid to do.
I'll make the cake and food myself so it will probably be around $200.

His second birthday we had at our small apartment, family only- maybe $50 for food/balloons?

His first was a few hundred though- we did a very nice first birthday.

We've spent about $300 for each of lo's parties so far. They are at our house, with 10-15 adults and about the same for kids. That's for food, decor, invites, etc.

We only do 1st birthdays, so Char didn't have a party last year. For her 1st, we spent over $500 because we had it at home and rented a bunch of shit.

--$100ish for jumper, pinata, tables and chairs
--$100ish for 15x20 shade canopy (her birthday is in the middle of July and it was 90*+... so we needed to shade our guests)
--$200ish for food (ordered trays of pasta, pizza for kids, grocery store cake)
--$100ish for invites, decorations, favors

I REALLY want a taco guy for Harry's 1st birthday this coming May, but it costs about $400 just for that! So if we do that, we wouldn't be renting the tent/canopy, but we might be able to get away with that with our 10x10 easy up and it being a cooler time of year.

Our son's 1st birthday will be in February and it's costing us close to $3K, but then again, in Korean culture the first birthday is huge, so we're not sweating it too much.

I'm planning lo's first birthday now and I think we will have maybe 20ish ppl. We will do it at our house. I'll make food and invites and any decor. If we weren't having alcohol I'd say under 100 but I'll probably have some beer and sangria or something so maybe 150. I expect for future bdays we won't have a party until she is in grade school. And there will never be a pony. :)

Our first was expensive because we had dinner and had it catered for about 40 people. Maybe around $500? Ugh. Maybe a little more. I also bought some platters because I had nothing to entertain with. Plus drinks and appetizers....And I had to rent tables and chairs! This time, it's $100 to rent a park pavilion on a weekend, plus I am just doing cookies and milk so the cost should be under $100 for that. Since I went big for #1, I feel obligated to go as cheap as I can this time

for LO's second birthday, my parents treated all of us to brunch at a nice restaurant. later on we gave LO a cupcake. we didn't get him a gift because he's young enough that he doesn't notice and he got gifts from our other family members. oh we also bought some cupcakes for his daycare class. so $50 or less, i'm guessing, but we didn't have a "party".

@pinkcupcake: What kind of entertainment do you have? Sounds like a really cool party :)

@lemondrop: 25 people including the hosts (3 of us and 4 of my friend's family) and kids+ their guardians... so it wasn't that much and we felt pressured on inviting people - we couldn't send invitation to everyone we wanted to invite but we were afraid the ones we sent to won't show up and wasted our headcount lol. Then the day of the party half the kids were crying because they wanted to go out and play rather than being forced to sit in a room. Sigh. I will try to avoid parties as much as possible from now on.

@ValentineMommy: I know, Pizza is so expensive! Who knew? Should just buy a loaf of sliced bread and make them share, ok i'll give them some jam too lol

We're doing a pizza and cake party at home for a 2 year old. 21 people. The pizza alone costs almost $100, and after all the paper goods and other food and decorations, it's in the $200-300. Which is still more than I wanted to spend.

Wow, you guys did great! That sounds like a heck of a deal for 25 people. Hope the birthday boys had fun!

We're a 0-50 since we only do basic family and keep it simple. We may do a bigger one for our #2's first birthday since he is a Pi Day baby and it's an epic year for that... still probably under $200 since we don't have a huge circle.

Planning my lo's 3rd bday right now... So far, it's $450'for the entertainment, $50 for cake, prob around $100 for food + drinks, at least $50 for decor ... I'm DIYing almost everything but the materials are still so expensive (tulle , cardstock, etc)

We have just wrapped up on a joint 3 year old birthday party at a children's museum and it came out to be $478 total. So since we split it comes to $239 per birthday boy. Here is a break down:

Children's museum, package deal 25 headcount total, including hosts and adults
Venue package price: $230
Cake + candles: $53
Card: DIY, $25 materials only
Veggie + fruit: $24
Favors, plates: $55
Pizza: $83
Drinks: $8

I am kinda suprised it was under $500 due to it being in the children's museum.

I am curious to know about how much did you spend on your parties, your venue, size (if you had 100 guests and did you hire ponies or magicians), and how did it break down!
