Just watched this last night on netflix and was crying my eyes out. As a teacher I feel this movie should be mandatory viewing. I hate to admit that at times I have taken the whole kids will be kids stance to bullying and thats not right. I teach elementary and my school has a bullying prevention week where we teach lessons and the vocabulary etc. and I think it has made a difference. It has at least given students the vocabulary to explain what is happening to them and know its ok to ask for help.

I watched the CNN special about one year after the bully project and I have been meaning to watch the full documentary. Just watching the updates after one year was incredibly moving. I just wanted to punch those bullies in the face (obviously this would not help), it made me so sick what they did. And the reaction of the school administrators. What they are trying to do with getting one million kids to watch the movie to reach a tipping point is amazing. It really makes you think about how to raise your kids to not be bystanders.

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: Seriously! All I could think while watching was that life doesn't stay like that... it's so hard to realize that when you're in it though. Talking with DH last night we realize how we've said some of those same things to G and that has to stop! It's become universally accepted that it's never okay for a husband to hit/abuse his wife, no matter what she does, why wouldn't we take the same stance bullying in general? It doesn't matter if G goes where those boys are he still has a right to be treated right!

I am seriously disgusted with the justification that happens in the school systems in regards to this. "We don't have a bullying problem" after a child takes their life b/c of bullying..... Ummm how many times does something like that have to happen for you to think there is a "problem"?! *pulls hair out*

What I don't understand most is NO ONE likes being made to feel like they don't matter.... even bullies, so if no one likes being mistreated WHY do kids/young adults continue to do this to each other?! I know that some level of bullying has always gone on but it's gotten to a point that it's just out of control these days.

As you can tell this has seriously been irking me. =/

@runsyellowlites: The school administration's response to bullying is disturbing, dissappointing, and reckless. These students do not have any support at school. I am not surprised these kids don't share everything that is happening at school with their parents. When I was being teased in elemenrary school I knew my mom couldn't relate and she blamed me for not sticking up for myself. My personality just wasn't built to dish it back. I wish these kids knew life gets better and to hold on.

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: It is really hard to watch, but I'm glad we saw it through!

@BananaPancakes: I was bullied in high school & even seeing this documentary I still can't believe how my treatment was just pushed aside & even had the focal blame on me as opposed to the perpetrator! We've been dealing with G getting bullied too (part of the reason why we homeschool b/c it wasn't being dealt with) and I sobbed last night talking with DH about how WE do that too... not even meaning to we place blame on G. "Well don't go over where that kid is.." I don't know how we're going to fix what's going on but we both know that something HAS to change! It's so sad to see our next generation being treated like this!

Have any of you ladies seen this documentary? I know there have been posts in the past in regards to bullying & a number of us were bullied in school BUT now as a parent dealing with their child being on the receiving end of bullying I can say that this documentary was pretty devastating.

You never look at your child when they're crawling around new little people in this world & think that they'd grow up to ever be treated like this, but so often it does happen & it's hard to know how to properly handle it (atleast that's what DH & I are asking ourselves).

I honestly considered having G watch it, but think I'll wait a couple more years since it does include so much tragedy. I would love for things like this to become mandatory curriculum for Jhi & HS but I'm sure it won't.

If you haven't seen it I highly suggest it, but do be prepared to cry.. possibly ALOT, I certainly did! If you have seen it, what did you think?

Here's the trailer (it's streaming on Netflix for those interested)
