She is a big baby though--9.5 lbs at birth, around 12 lbs now at 5 weeks. If your baby is smaller/has a short torso, you might do better in newborn CDs. For us it would have been a waste since LO was so big! But I know others on here have mentioned newborn rentals because of the cost investment to purchase vs. short time used. Overall, it's going to depend on how often you can/want to do laundry. Newborns go through a LOT of diapers, and you're changing them overnight too - I think we used like a dozen a day for the first month or so. So you'd probably need 12-15 with nearly daily laundry? If you're planning to have multiple kids, it's not quite as cost prohibitive. I fold my inserts differently for dd and ds, and use some combo of 3 different inserts for overnights, outings, etc. And the pocket keeps all the folds and layers in place and tidy (moreso than my flips, which just fold and lay in the shell).</p> <p>But I think newborn cloth diapers are recommended (or were rec to me at least) for when they are very small. They have a scooped waist in front so they don't abrade the umbilical area. The online description states the inserts "allow for customized absorbancy". How, if Freetimes' claim to fame is the attached inserts unlike the 4.0 stuffing?</p> <p>Also, did you find the cut of the 4.0 or Freetimes in the way or uncomfortable for your infant's umbilical area? </p>
