I am not a fan of seats that put kids in positions they can't maintain on their own. It doesn't help them learn to sit on their own and limits their movements.

I would also ask them not to use it. They can say it's only for short periods of time, but there are so many variables (ie other kids) where short can easily become long. Or where a caretaker may need to quickly tend to another child and may not be sitting right there anymore. They can be the most attentive and caring individuals on the planet, but they still have multiple kids per person. At that age in that scenario, I'd want 100% attention on my kid, and I know it's just not realistic in that setting (or many settings, to be honest - I'm not anti-daycare at all - we love ours).

I'd be upset! But I don't use a bumbo at all, so I can't judge exactly when it would be okay. I know my LO wouldn't have been safe in it at that age, but she was a preemie and a little behind on head control even for her adjusted age.

This is interesting. I never used a bumbo with my first, and she didn't start daycare until she was 11 months so it didn't matter. But they put my 5 month old in one, I'm not sure for how often or how long, but probably have been doing it since 4 months. I didn't know it wasn't good for them! She can't sit on her own, but seems to do okay in there. Wondering if I should ask them to stop putting her in it.

It would make me uncomfortable. My daughter has always had great head and neck control--she was holding her head up when she was born. But her trunk control and core muscles took some time to develop, and I would not have wanted that development limited or rushed by early bumbo use. Full disclosure, I'm not a bumbo fan at all.

I would be annoyed they were using it to be honest. We used one maybe 4 times total starting around 4-4.5 months and it was around when she was learning to sit up. I only put her in for a few minutes. I feel she did much better not sitting in it.

I would not allow a bumbo to be used at any time, certainly not that young.

I dont know, I would use it for very short periods of time (like set them down so you can go get something) but Anything more than 15-20 minutes I would be uncomfortable with. Our last daycare had a rule though about a max of 30 minutes in any chair/swing etc per child though (regardless of age).

@Madison43: same. Its not good for their developing core. Aside from like 1-2 min with direct observation, I would not use it at that age.

I'm sure it's probably not harmful for short periods of time (which they are hopefully limiting). BUT I guess I don't see a reason for it so early? We didn't start putting DD in the Bumbo until 4 months, and we still limited it to just a few minutes because she still kind of slumped forward and I'd read it wasn't great for muscle development/proper sitting.

I wouldn't worry about it. I put my kids in the Bumbo for short periods of time around that age.

I walked into daycare last night and the teachers had A (12w old) in a Bumbo seat! I purposely let her sit in there for a few minutes while I gathered her things and spoke to her teacher so I could observe how she was doing because I really thought it was kind of early, but she's also always had very good neck strength. She was doing very well - she held up her head, was looking around, and able to move her hands up to her mouth and stuff. But she was slumped a bit to the side. I did some research last night and results are mixed - some say it's fine that early, some say no way. As I said, she seemed to be able to hold her head up fine. I didn't see it "flop" once while I was in there. But the slumping makes me a little uneasy.

Am I over-reacting? If you saw your 12w old baby in a Bumbo, what would your first thought be?
