we have a combo of flip (prefolds and inserts with covers), 4.0s (pocket diapers that you have to stuff) and elementals. we couldn't use the elementals for the first couple months because she HATED being wet or dirty and there is no wicking with the elementals (we have the old style). now that she's older, they work great and we have no complaints, but we LOVE our 4.0s because you can change the absorbency with stuffing!

I love our BG Freetimes! They never leak (like ever) and our DD's skin seems to do best with microfiber. She never rashes in her Freetimes.

We have them and liked them..... but we've had to use sposies lately because LO keeps getting a rash in them. They worked great for almost 2 years and I strip them, but still rash.

I used Elementals for two years, and they worked well. I'm trying 4.0 for LO2 because the dry time for the Elementals took forever. I also used and abused them, and they're not longer in good shape.

I've also come to realize I don't really like microfiber. I do like our elemental, but it is the older style I've read the newer ones have exposed PUL. It's hard to say honestly until you try them on your baby!

Love our Freetimes. Never have any leaks or blowouts in them, unlike with disposables. For our boys, we lay the back flap flat across and fold the front flap in half to increase absorbency in the front. I don't think we could keep up with washing them if we couldn't just throw the whole thing in the washer without unstuffing, then stuffing before using, etc.

I LOVE our Freetimes. We've been battling a yeast infection so he's been in disposables for a week or two and I keep staring longingly at the BG (you CANNOT use most regular diaper rash cream on CDs. It will be a HUGE PITA. Luckily this was the first major rash he's had.)

We also have some Elementals, but I don't like them as much. I find they stain easier (although they can be sun-bleached) and take longer to dry.

I've only had one blowout with the BG, and it was when he was 3 weeks old and they didn't fit as tightly around the thighs as they needed to.

You can also buy separate inserts for them (We have half a dozen...I think they're called Double Dry or something, from the Cotton Babies website), which we use at night since LO is a belly sleeper.

@citymouse: I've played around with the sizing and rise but they just fit really strange on my daughter. Her legs stay really far apart when she wears them and she looks more comfortable in the 4.0s and Elementals.

@citymouse: We have a mix of different Bum Genius and I love them all. I love the Freetimes because they are a quicker-drying AIO, I love the Elementals because they're soooo easy, and I love the 4.0s because you can adjust the absorbency in the pockets. We do the two types of AIOs during the day, and pockets at night.

I don't love the freetimes. I much prefer the pockets.

If you're interested I am happy to sell you gently used freetimes! I would love to trade them for a few more pocket diaps. They are in great condition, no staining and the elastics are not worn out - we haev only been using them for a few months.

@grizz: This is what I am hoping for! I *think* these are the best ones for us, but how could we really know until we try? I really would like to avoid buying a couple of each brand to try out and then try to sell/use disposables until we figure it out kind of thing.
