I'm going to go against the grain here...so far I am preferring my Applecheeks over BG's. Maybe my opinion will change once LO is older but the Applecheeks fit amazingly well and I like the inserts much better. I've not had one leak with AC's (knock on wood!)

we have BG 4.0's too -- we just have 12 because we are more part time CD'ers.... as in 2 days on, 1 day off. we give ourselves a lot of breaks hahha... still saving money, though!

sounds like the cracking has to do with improper washing/detergent/drying. definitely follow the website recommendations to a T. :)

enjoy!

Most of our stash is BG 4.0. I tried lots of different brands, and these were the best choice. We rarely have leaks, and they have been very sturdy - we are on baby #2 with them now and still have no problems with the PUL (I agree that that sounds like a wash routine problem).

On the other hand, I also have three Bummis Tots Bots Easy Fit, which I LOVE. They are softer, trimmer, and the insert just folds out, so you don't actually have to reach in and remove anything; it just agitates out in the wash. Unfortunately, I didn't find them until we already had all we needed in the BG. (Plus they are more expensive and are harder to find used).

I LOVE LOVE my BGs. Especially my Elementals. I'm pretty meh about my 4.0s, and I hate the 4.0 inserts. I just don't use them. I think her issue is a wash routine problem. I very rarely machine dry my 4.0s, but this winter I am having to use it for my Elementals. They take too long to line dry inside.

@grizz: I really love my snap Thirsties Duo Diapers. They are also pocket diapers like the BG4.0 but the inserts are much more absorbent and hold up better. An added bonus is that there is an opening at the front and back of the diaper, so you don't have to unstuff before you wash!

@T.H.O.U.: She dries them on hot! I'm guessing that's the issue. My work's daycare specified BumGenius but I'm guessing its because they're not famililar with any other kind bc they only have one CD baby and she's in BGs. I will have to ask them again if we decide to get anything else.

BG are my favorites. We also have Fuzzi Bunz, Happy Heineys (got about 12 of these for free, but I don't like them), and Bummis Tots Bots. I keep adding BG to our stash because I love them so much. Perfect for chunky baby legs :)

@grizz: Does she dry them? I line dry mine and have had them over a year. I do not love the Microfiber inserts but my pockets are great.

Also, I would assume that your daycare is willing to take any brand of pocket or AIO. Did you clarify that they really are brand specific?

@Mrs. Pen: @autumnlove: Ahhh, it might be that she dries them on a regular setting in the dryer! How many do you have in your stash?

I got a great deal on two brand new diapers w/ snaps that I'm picking up this afternoon. We are 6 diapers in, and I'm trying to work up to 24 or so. I just got nervous after hearing her experience. @FutureMrsMcK:

I love BG diapers and I haven't had any issues with repelling or the PUL cracking and I've been using most of them for over a year. I use CD safe detergent and I usually line dry or use a low/medium setting on my dryer. They are totally worth it for me!

Do you happen to know her washing routine?

Vinegar and baking soda break down pul and elastic- and they are commonly used in washing to eliminate odors. You can use them but only every once in awhile, not consistently or they will break down.

I used a cloth diaper safe detergent- so very gentle, and I line dried my covers. After six months of cd'ing they still looked brand new.

I would recommend not drying them and using safe detergent. Bum genius were my favorite and I tried over five different brands

I LOVE my BG, and so far have had very few problems with leaking--when he was 2 weeks old and his thighs were still a little bit small, and now at night, because he's a tummy-sleeper and a boy, which I'm sure I can solve by adding in an insert of some kind--and I've had no problems with the PUL cracking.

We have been slowly building a stash of BumGenius for Baby Grizz. We chose it because we had several friends say they had gotten rid of all of their other cloth diaper brands besides BG, and because of a lot of great reviews I read online. It is also one of the only kinds my work's daycare center is ok with doing for me.

However, one of my friends who sank a ton of $$$$ into an exclusive BumGenius stash is now having to throw a bunch of them away due to the PUL cracking/leaking. Is it normal for them to delaminate this early?! Her baby was only born in August! Before we buy any more, I wanted to get some insight from other mamas about BGs and any other diapers than are in your stash. We can't decide whether to keep going with BG or to branch out with other brands.
