If it is PUPPPS, I had good results with using Pine Tar soap (pretty cheap at Whole Foods) and sarna lotion. It was still pretty bad and itchy, but those seemed to help the most. Also, scratching definitely made it worse. Good luck! I hope it's not PUPPPS!

@mrskansas: Thanks  You're right, I should probably call, I've been avoiding it because it's one of our craziest weeks at work, but best to be safe. I'm also going to really watch what I eat, because I've had some skin reactions from food allergies before and I wonder if that skin could just be extra sensitive to it.

@periwinklebee: I would go ahead and call your OB if it's not affecting your belly button. I remember my doctor telling me that PUPPS affects the abdomen everywhere but the belly button and it's one of the telltale symptoms. I could be wrong about that but it doesn't hurt to call!
Thinking of you!

@Shree1990: Thanks! Fortunately it doesn't seem like anything is infected.

@Mrs. Microscope: @mrskansas: Thanks! A bit itchy but not too bad. I didn't think it was the oil because I also put it elsewhere without any issues except on the bump, but it is a good idea to try laying off and see if that helps. It seems to be around my belly button but not actually in it...

I would also lay off the oils for a few days and see if it helps.
Is the rash also in your belly button?

Is it an itchy rash? If so, ask your OB. If not, maybe you are breaking out from all the oil? Maybe try a hypoallergenic lotion for a few days and see if it clears up? Good luck!

I have heard of only oils. The stretching does cause a series of problems. And also the crevices of the skin sometimes harbour germs. Rubbing your belly with an antiseptic oil like tea tree oil could prevent it from happening if it is only an infection. Rose water is also good for toning the skin. I am not an expert though. This is just grandma's remedies. I hope it helps.

Over the past couple of days, I've developed a bumpy red rash all over my abdomen, google image search makes me think it is the start of PUPPS, but I'm only 20 weeks and that seems to start later so hopefully not.

Any tips for how to keep it from getting worse? I've been using a mix of almond and avocado oil a couple of times a day since the start of second tri to help with itchiness from stretching, but I'm not sure that's the most effective.
