I knew mine was bloat vs bump easily by looking at my stomach every morning. Up until maybe 16 weeks my stomach would be flat or hardly look visible when I woke up in the mornings and once I started to eat throughout the day it would go back to looking bumpish so I couldn't blame it on the baby:) Once the bump is real I think you will know it and won't be any question. Congrats!

Eh, I consider them to be the same thing. You're pregnant and yes, technically the baby isn't big enough to make a "real" bump, but my bloat just slowly turned into bump and there was no real way to tell the difference. It's a bump!

I think mine is mostly still bloat but today was the first day that i had a hard time getting dressed. I'm hoping people will think it is still my 'fluff' as we aren't ready to go public yet.

@simplyfelicity: Your little bump is so cute!

I always heard you can't suck in a bump. It also doesn't go away in the morning.

You look great, lady! It THRILLS me that you are 13 weeks.

@youboots: Thank you! The bump is new but the squish is not. :silly: I was actually part of the March group but that ended in a D & C, so happy to be out of the first trimester (well, in a couple days.) Praying baby is doing well. If I already have a bump, I am probably going to get HUGE. Hope you are feeling well. March will be here soon!

@simplyfelicity: you look great mama! I have followed along with you a bit, I am so so happy for you. I'm sorry you have been so sick. 13/14 weeks for me was a huge turning point. I hope you get some relief soon.

@youboots: Since this is my third attempt at our first LO, I am extra excited. The bump is always there but less obvious when I am laying down. Here is a pic for reference. I just have so much more fluff after being nearly bed ridden for several weeks from terrible morning sickness.

@simplyfelicity: For me I was just sooooooo excited to have a maybe baby bump, I poked, I analyzed, I asked for opinions. Out of nowhere it was legit, now I'm almost 30 weeks and I'm spending more time worrying about the fact that there will be a baby here really soon ;) But I feel you lady.

In answer to your original question. I think bloat goes away overnight. A baby bump is with you when you get up, it may get bigger during the day, but it's always there.

I had these same questions until it because obvious it was baby. That was at 17ish weeks. Just call it a bump and rock it ;)

At some point it becomes obvious, but I don't remember when. I did realize last time though, that even before your uterus is big/high enough to be obvious, it IS growing and shoving organs out of its way. So I think the stages of belly growth are bloat, organs, then actual uterus/baby. But I just treat it all the same since it's all because of baby even before I can actually put my hand on baby.

How can you tell the difference? I will be 13 weeks in a couple days and cannot figure out if it is bump or bloat. I was able to wear my regular pants until a week ago, tried the rubber band trick, couldn't stand it and got maternity jeans (which barely stay on.) My tummy definitely had "padding" to begin with but then I noticed it was harder and stuck out more than my regular chub. How can you tell the difference? I have been loving the bump until it dawned on me that it might just be bloat.
