Thank you all. I had to leave for work before he woke so I didn't get to see the tooth/gum. Gonna ask my mom how he's doing later. I think he's ok though. He was fine for the hour or so before bedtime last night but I gave him Tylenol just in case he would be in pain and couldn't sleep well. Didn't make a peep at all last night so I think we'll be ok. I left some Tylenol with my mom and said to give him some before nap if needed.

I agree to what the other moms have said - if he's acting fine and still eating/drinking, then I would just watch it for a few days. Poor baby :-(

@iluvboba637: poor him :( that looks pretty nasty. Unless he is in significant pain from his tooth you can wait. My main concern would be if his tooth had fractured.

I doubt your dentist would even want to try an X-ray until his lip healed a bit anyway.

As someone above posted if he is acting fine in a few days and isn't having significant pain with the tooth a wait and see approach is fine. The tooth may be fractured, it may not. It may be fine or it may get infected weeks/months/or years from now.

I really just don't want to take him to the dentist and traumatize him more if it isn't necessary. He wouldn't let anyone look/touch it last night except for me so I'm guessing he wouldn't let the dentist look.

The swelling on the lip has gone down a bit. I iced it last night when he was sleeping. But idk about the Gumline. Haven't looked at it yet since he's still asleep and might have to leave for work before he even wakes up yet. This WOHM thing is so hard.

ugh - that happened to my DS when he was 18 months old. We did go to the dentist about a month later for his normal check up and the dentist said since it was a baby tooth it was a wait and see what happens.

DS's tooth turned a little brown (which dentist said was normal after trauma ) but never got a cavity in it - he lost the tooth when he was 6 - so luckily he never had any problems

Aww, poor thing! My LO has fallen a couple of times now and bitten into her bottom lip...the first time the tooth went right through it! :crying: We took her to the hospital and they checked the teeth weren't wobbly and said they would be ok. They just glued up the hole in her skin.

My brother said if he can eat and drink it's probably no big deal. And he's ate and drank fine. So I think I'm the more traumatized one. I'll have him swish with warm salt water tmw. Thanks again.

Oh, I forgot- we did have him rinse with warm water to try to rinse the blood out. Once we were able to teach him how to swish and spit it out (huge mess!) we had him do it with warm salt water. It really got a lot of the blood out of the gum line. I know it's so scary (for us to look at!) but like I said, it healed so incredibly quickly.

My 3 year old fell and his gum line and inside lip looked exactly the same. I did take him in the next day but the doctor had no concerns what so all. They said to look for discoloration of the tooth in the future but it's been over a month and the tooth is fine. I was shocked how quickly his mouth healed (3, 4 days at the most!) Hope he feels good tomorrow

Warning: graphic pictures below

DS 2.5y/o stood up on a chair while we were out having dinner, slipped and bumped his lip on the table.

The bleeding has stopped but his lip is swollen and cut on the inside. And there is blood that has clotted on his upper tooth. The tooth doesn't seem to be moving and he didn't freak out when I touched it.

Do you think he needs to see the dentist tomorrow?

We gave him Tylenol and put him to bed.

He's always had that extra bit of somewhat swollen looking gum in between those two teeth which the pedi said was normal. But of course now it's all bloody.

What else can I do for him in the mean time. I hate that I have to go to work tomorrow. :crying:
