Sounds like he's fine. :). I am so careful around my babe, but am clumsy... I punched her in the face when she was about 2 months when pulling a music pull you above her head using a friend's change table. She cried quite a bit and I swore she would have a black eye. She didn't and I felt awful and teared up, but after the initial upset she was totally fine. I know she has been bumped on the head a few times by either me or my husband over her few months of life, despite being cautious, first-time parents. She is a happy baby. Even though they are quite fragile, they are stronger than we think. :)

@Mrs. Sunshine: I dropped my phone on C a few times in her first few months!

The worst was when she was older- like talking, maybe right around turning 2, DH was picking her up in our bedroom being silly, and lifted her into our ceiling fan! It was like three thuds before her got her out of the way. I just looked and said, did you just put her head in the ceiling fan?? And she looks right at me and says, Yes!! (Turns out ceiling fans don't hurt that much but I was horrified).

I am sure baby is fine!

We've bonked DD's head so many times (often on the car door). She also flipped off our ottoman. Totally fine!

Pretty sure a Nalgene bottle won't hurt him :) T rolled off the couch at 10 weeks and our ped took a look at him and he was/is fine. My toddler has abused him worse :)

It sounds like he's fine, just got scared, poor little guy! I know it's hard not to worry!

I dropped a wooden cutting board on DD's forehead when she was like three weeks. I was rummaging for something in the dark and it fell off the counter. She cried and I felt like the worst mom ever, but she's fine.

I dropped my phone on DD2's head when she was like 2 weeks old. I was mortified and called my mom sobbing. She was fine. If there is no knot and/or bruise, I'd say it's fine. It's so hard not to worry but chances are, he's likely a-okay!

Babies are more durable than you think. If he went back to eating that quickly it sounds like he was just scared more than hurt. If it makes you feel better I've bonked both my kids heads on door frames while holding them and they're both mostly normal :silly:

So I was nursing my 5-week-old and my husband came over to talk to me. His grip on his empty Nalgene bottle slipped and it hit the side/top of baby's head from about 6 inches away. The baby's face screwed up, he unlatched, and started to cry as I hurriedly put him over my shoulder and tried to sooth him with patting, shushing, rubbing his head gently, etc. He calmed down after about 15-20 seconds (??) and I offered him my breast again and he went back to feeding as if nothing happened. He started to get really drowsy, but that was expected - he's been awake for 2 hours (schedule got off-kilter today) and so I was nursing him hoping he's fall asleep anyway. He perked back up after I burped him and offered the other breast; and now DH is bouncing with him and he's drowsy. Is this a significant concern??? FTM here.

I tried calling the after-hours nurse line with my pediatrician but it said there was a fee, so I hung up, unsure if it was worth the fee (didn't say how much it was). I googled it and most of the articles are targeted towards older babies, but it seems that it's mainly only a concern if there's unconsciousness, a big bump or dark bruise, clear fluid leaking from ears or nose, vomiting, excessive fussiness, or excessive sleeping / unable to be roused from sleep. He doesn't have any of those as far as I can tell, but you know with a newborn, there's a fair amount of fussiness and sleeping anyway....

Do you think it merits a call to the after-hours nurse line despite the unmentioned fee? This almost definitely is not an urgent care trip as of now, right??

I'd also appreciate any stories of how you bumped your newborn's head and they were ok... I think I'll have a hard time sleeping tonight....
