@Weagle: I agree with you, but I think as they get older sometimes all they need is that little .5" advantage to get over the side of the crib.

We have had a breathable one on her crib since day one. I love it. Nothing falls out, her legs/arms stay in, I don't worry about suffocation, and I don't think she can use it to climb out. It was the perfect compromise for me.

We just got breathable bumpers because his swaddled feet (inside a swaddleme blanket) were sticking out of the slats.

We use a breathable bumper too! Prevents pacis / loveys from falling out of the crib and arms/legs from sticking thru.

@Amelieisme: hahhahahahah omgosh! So cool how he stayed asleep despite his positioning :)

We use a mesh/breathable bumper. It def does the job and is safe too.
We do own a padded bumper but I wouldn't use that until he was a lot older...maybe like 10m? That is if his movements become so aggressive that I fear he may hurt himself. By then I guess his ability to wake himself up (if breathing was restricted) would be better since he is much older.

I had them for my older sons because the AAP hadn't released that they were bad yet. We had them in my daughters in the beginning for looks when she was still in her bassinet. Then took them out. They come with the crib sets which now seem silly since we didn't use much of it.

People keep talking about how LOs use them to climb out of the crib, but I don't see how that works in practice. In theory, yes. When LO actually stands on the bumper they just compress down to mattress level. They give her a maybe .5 inch advantage.

Nope... AAP recommends against them for SIDS and you have to take them out once they can pull to stand so they don't use them to climb up the side of the crib. It just didn't seem worth the $ for the short amount of time they can be used. BUT this is how we woke a few mornings ago...

LO is almost 14 months we bought bumpers, but took them out before we put LO in crib for the first time. He has slept many times with an arm dangling out or his head pressed up against the rails. It doesn't bother him. I would rather not have to worry that his head was pressed up against a bumper. I also like that it has better airflow in his crib.

We use breathable bumpers. Even at 18 months we keep them in, LO still gets her limbs stuck in there if we don't. She has a sleep sack on so I'm not too worried about her trying to climb out and falling over.

We had mesh bumpers and never put them on - I can only think of one or two times when my LO got an arm stuck. And he never sticks out his legs since he's in a sleep sack. We did have to deal with paci's falling out constantly, though - that was annoying.
