We get told verbally. But I just expect kids to get bumps/bruises/scratches so it doesn't bother me unless it's really bad (which hasn't happened yet, thank goodness).

We get a written incident report. If he has some kind of bump/bruise/scratch that he got from home I usually let them know in the morning when I drop him off.

I really worry about this. One boy at my daycare likes pulling my baby's hair and it really worries me that hewill bully her when she starts crawling and then walking. I know sometimes kids will fall and hurt themselves but its really hard when they cant even give you an explanation of what happened.

I think it is to be expected. DS goes to a licensed in-home day care, so I don't get incident reports. DS is 19 months now, so bumps and bruises go with the territory. The more serious marks or bruises I get told about verbally. DS scratches himself all of the time, and he and another boy fight a lot, hitting and biting occasionally. They are the two closest in age and size and haven't learned to share yet.

If you are in a daycare center, I'd expect them to write some kind of incident report about it. And if you LO is not mobile yet, then I'd definitely want to know what happened. A LO who isn't mobile shouldn't be left alone with bigger kids where they can hurt the LO accidentally (like on the floor or a bouncer on the floor).

My LO isn't in daycare, but even when she's with my her grandparents she'll come back with bumps or bruises and they have no clue how they got there. I think it's to be expected with babies and toddlers.

@Thehistoryofus: I think that's sort of impressive that they called you and admitted they had no idea what happened-- shows they really are honest. I'm sure they were totally thrilled that it happened at home, though!

We get an incident report almost every other day. Haha. For bumps to the head or anything serious, we get a call immediately after they've finished attending to him.

The first few times my son got hurt with his daycare lady, she called immediately. Now, not so much. But he's a crazy kid and I expect him to get hurt.

When LO first started walking, we got little incident report slips pretty much daily :)
(kid falls down a lot)

I like that they don't call us if he's fine and bounces back, and just fill out the slip instead. If it was just a little mark, and it doesn't happen often, I probably wouldn't worry about them not saying anything, but in general I expect some kind of notification if my kid has additional wear-and-tear that wasn't there when i dropped him off.

Our daycare will always make a note when they notice she scratched herself - that's all that's happened so far! I'm guessing they would do similarly if she had a fall or got bonked by a toy or something.

My day care would have provided an incident report. I think this may be required by law in most states, hopefully it was just an oversight on their end.

Any time there is any mark we get a phone call and a written incident report. Sometimes its just a silly, she bumped her head, but other times I am really glad they take the time to share with us what happened.

Funny though, the other day she got a black eye at home. Her teacher didn't notice it until later in the day and sheepishly had to call me to let me know she got a black eye but they couldn't figure out how it happened! She was VERY relieved when I told her the incident happened at home!

It is to be expected (within reason, of course) but I would also expect them to fill out an incident report telling me how she got the mark.

ETA - They also call right after the incident happens.

Is this to be expected? M came home with a little red mark on her face yesterday. It doesn't look like she scratched herself. I asked the early teacher and she didn't know if something happened. I'm going to ask the late teacher when I pick her up. I know things happen but I'd like to know what happened! I'm guessing one of the crawlers dropped a toy on her but I'd like someone to tell me if that happened.

Do you just expect bumps and bruises on your lo at daycare?
