We have the ikea loft bed with the storage bin "stairs" instead of using the ladder. We have loved it. The kids love it. DD is 6 and is on top and DS is 4 and on the bottom. We got the stairs because DD is very accident prone. Changing the sheets is the only downside :) We do have very strict rules about playing in the top bed. I don't need the ceiling fan whacking a kid in the head!
We originally got it just for DS at age 3 and he used it like a loft bed and slept on top and was fine, also flipped it and he loved it that way too. But when baby #3 surprised us we moved the older 2 into the same room.

We just got a bunk bed a couple of weeks ago. I’m not excited about changing the sheets, but it is what it is. Both of our girls will share a room soon, so it’s necessary. So far, since it’s just our older DD in the room, we’ve been reading to her at night on the bottom bunk, then she climbs up to the top to go to bed.

We have noticed our two year old trying to climb up to the top, but it’s already happening less as the novelty wears off.

We are planning to get the Ikea bunk/loft bed for our girls; it's not tall at all and I'm also considering investing in beddy's (maybe wait till Black Friday for sales) for them.

We got bunk beds and I have absolutely no regrets! We moved the girls together when they were 2 and 3.5 (I think close to 4). It went really well.

I got bunk beds when DS turned 2. He was placed on the bottom bunk as the crib would be for DD. He moved up to the top bunk at 4 and DD took the bottom bunk. DS has never had a problem getting down in the middle of the night to go to the restroom.

I don't have any major regrets, but DD likes to go up to the top bunk and fell off the ladder a couple of times. I have caught them playing on the upper bunk including jumping on the bed.

We have a lower bunk, but I've never really read to them on the bunk and the lighting under the bed has never been the best. We usually read in the living room.

Making the bed is annoying. The hardest part is all of the rails make it a lot harder to get it tucked in. It's also next to the wall and it's hard to tuck that side in, but the bottom is hard to tuck in against the wall as well.

No regrets at all ! My girls actually each have their own bed in their own rooms but they're on a different floor than the master bedroom. We put bunk beds in the room beside ours and 99% of the time they choose to sleep in the bunk bed room together. It’s also awesome to have when my niece sleeps over !

@Autumnmama79: yes the reading and snuggling also was one of my concerns. Then I thought maybe we could get a cool bean bag chair or big floor cushion. But then does that take away the floor space we wanted anyway.

We got my 5 year old (actually he was 4.5 at the time) that IKEA loft bed that everybody has, and it’s been great. His 3 year old brother does sometimes ask when he gets to have a “big bed” and does like to play up there but he’s never wanted to sleep there. I love the space underneath - we put a couple of big cushions (actually dog beds) under there and use it for reading time. And my son has no problems climbing down to pee in the night. It hasn’t been that much of a hassle to make, even this past week when the house is staged and I’ve had to do an actual good job - the only thing that’s a hassle is that I have to climb up onto the bed to close the curtains every night because of where the bed is placed.

@Mrs. Carrot: congrats on the new house! The only silver lining is that the bed is so high you can’t see that it’s unmade, but dd never gets that feeling of getting into a nicely made up bed. She probably doesn’t care, but it quietly bugs me.

@Autumnmama79: we just got my 6 year old a loft bed (moving to a new house tomorrow) and I didn't even consider the bed making situation, thank you for saying that! She really wanted a high bed and I told her that it means we won't be able to lay down with her anymore so we'll see how that goes. Thankfully we read in a chair anyway so at least we'll still have that.

Dd has a loft bed and I seriously regret it. The bed is never made, unless she does it. There’s no way I’m climbing up to do that. But the worst part is that we don’t snuggle and read before bed anymore. For awhile we read books in my bed together but don’t even do that anymore. I really loved that time snuggling before bed.

We don't have bunk beds but one of DD's friends does. They use this for bedding:

They love them! Super pricey though.

We have a bunk bed, I hate changing the sheets but it is what it is. We have a tiny house and my boys share a room, we really have no other choice.

We do have a rule of no playing on the top bunk, it is for sleep only. They are 7 and 2.5, so far it's been fine in that respect. The first few weeks my toddler kept climbing up, but now it's lost its appeal and he doesn't really do it anymore. We've had the bed for almost 6 months.

My brother and I had bunk beds growing up and my mom is SHORT, like we're talking 4'11" and she somehow made our beds... I'd venture to say she didn't make them every day but she was able to do it... and my bro and I loved the bunk beds!!

We moved a few weeks ago and while my almost 5yos room is a great size, it’s smaller than his last (which was ridiculously oversized) and he has less room to play (which we like once in a while if he wants to build structures that the 17mo will destroy). We are thinking of getting him a bunk bed - the kind that doesn’t have a bed underneath, it’s instead a desk, bookshelf, etc. and added floor space to play - and some day we could put another twin bed if we wanted to.

Anyone get a bunk bed and seriously regret it? I’m not too worried about his safety. More like making the bed...will my 1.5yo always want to go up too...he never pees at night but if he does will be forget and fall out? 😆

He also currently has a full sized bed, but he has slept in a twin numerous times at my parents and my in-laws and he’s never fallen out.

Mostly it’s making the bed, though. Seems way harder for me and then it’s not a chore he can help me with anymore.

Anyone seriously regret this purchase?
