Lots of people around here drive their kids to the bus stop no matter how close because of the weather. I think they just wait in their car, then the kids hop out and they go to work.

@Bao: yeah, walking anywhere with two kids and having to be on time is impossible, even in good weather. I would need to leave half an hour early in your case. No shame in driving!

@Bao: on my street there is a family that lives 2 houses down from the bus stop, no roads to cross, etc, and they drive their kids to the bus stop. So...if people think you're crazy, oh well. Just do what works for you! If it would be better to pick up in front of your house though, I would ask the transportation director to come out and look at the situation and ask them to reconsider. A bus stop was moved in our neighborhood this year for a different reason, but they did send someone out to assess as a part of their decision.

@Bao: haha, c'mon, you know by now people will always have an opinion. I feel like you do what you have to do to make things work for your family! :) In your case, it's not about the walk TO the bus stop, it's about where you need to be quickly afterwards, right? Anyone with multiple kids should get that.

By the way, I feel your pain - my new neighborhood has separate schools for PK-1, 2-5, 6-8, and 9-12. My DDs will be 2 and either 2 or 3 years apart....we'll have multi-school drop offs for many years to come!

@Corduroy: @PinkElephant: @Andrea: I do suppose driving down there would be an option...I just didn't want people to be like, "seriously, you couldn't walk?" haha but honestly it's not that close!

@Andrea: If I had to take her all the way down to the bus stop, I would just take her to school I think. Like I mentioned, no sidewalks, crossing the street twice, cold winters, two kids...eh lol sounds terrible.

Will changing the bus stop help with pick up? I'm not clear how the bus stop change will help at that time.

And I definitely drive to the bus stop in bad weather. It does seem silly, but I also have my preschooler with me so we all stay nice and cozy in the car!

@Corduroy: This is what I was going to ask. Can you load both kids into the car, stop at the bus stop, put LO1 on the bus, then continue on with LO2 to preschool? It seems to me the problem could be pick up - the bus isn't going to be able to wait for you to get there if you're stuck in traffic getting your younger child, right? So then what would your child do? Or could you get the older one first, then go get the younger one - perhaps arranging to pay a small late fee to the preschool if you know you can't make it quite on time.

Would it be possible to drive to the bus stop? It sounds silly due to the distance but maybe it makes sense if you could continue on to preschool.

@Bao: is it possible to drop her off at school but still have the bus bring her home? Then you would have less worry at pick up time at least? And how busy is the main road- is there a shoulder you can walk on on your side?

That sounds like such a pain - I would drop off!
Unless you live somewhere with nice weather year round then I wouldn't mind walking to the bus stop

As a side, they wont add a stop for convenience but if there is a closer stop to you then we can choose that

I know it seems early to be thinking about bussing for this coming September, but with one LO being in preschool and one going to Kindergarten I need to figure this out before Preschool sign ups in a few weeks.

The school bus garage supervisor told me that they will not pick up my 5 year old from our driveway because it is within 200 feet from the "main" road. It's a 30 MPH road, and ours is a 25 mph road. We are the second house in from that main road, about 3 bus lengths from driveway to corner. The bus stop they want my daughter to go to is about 11 houses down, and there are no sidewalks on our side of the road to get her down there unless we cross the street, walk the sidewalk, and then cross back over. My issue is this: If I have to walk her down there, with another kid in tow each morning and each afternoon, would you think it's better off to just drive her to school? Or would you keep fighting for a different bus stop?

With the release of preschool and Kindergarten being within 5 minutes of each other, and crazy busy parking lots I need to figure out what my Kindergartener will be doing for school transportation, otherwise my youngest may not be able to even go to preschool this year if I can't figure out something better with the bussing situation.

I know that is really confusing, but would love some input!
