Ditto on what pp said, it totally depends on the farm. Around here there are a couple that do specific cuts, but most are whole or half birds and even the places that do pieces the whole birds are cheaper. We do a meat share that adds up to half a pig and I can’t remember how many chickens over the course of a season but comes in pieces (ex. this week we got bacon, pork loin and chicken thighs). Which is nice because it gives us variety and we don’t have to deal with butchering—I was a vegetarian until I got pregnant and started CRAVING meat so I’m squeamish about that stuff.

We actually sell chickens and we sell them by the bird and then when they’re butchered we either get them whole quartered or in eighths. Bigger farms might sell like a pack of breast or thighs but smaller farms probably only sell the whole bird

This might be a dumb question, but I'm asking anyway! When you buy chicken from local farmers does it usually come as a whole chicken? I assume it's not typical that you could get specific parts like thighs or breasts?
