I buy a year in advance all the time, especially from Gap since their clothes are pretty true to size. It just really depends on the brand for me. I think after a while their clothing size will match their age (2 years, 2T) unless your child has always been bigger than average. My friend's daughter is 3.5 but she has to wear 5T for certain brands b/c she's really tall.

My DD is 2 weeks old...and I've already bought some clothing up to 2 years. I won't buy any swimsuits or snowsuits in advance, I want to wait and see if LO is taller for her age or short since there's about a 1-2 month span that she can use those items where we live. But t-shirts and sweaters are fine.

@looch: same problem with us 3t in tops but 18-24 month in bottoms!

I will stockpile this year if there are good sales since Charlie is older and will probably be the next size up next summer. Last year I bought his shorts a little too big and they fit perfectly this year.

I want to, but I'm worried. My 2 month old is already wearing 6mo clothes, but still in 3mo pants. I have no idea what size he will be next year. My sister always had to double her kids' age when purchasing clothes (at 1 year they were fitting in 2t). I'm thinking since my husband is about the same size as my bil that this will be the case for our lo too.

I recommend stocking up for summer or neutral clothes. You can always put tights or baby legs under them if it is winter. But you can't take sleeves off. I will say that our 14 month old just moved out of 6-9 month clothes into 9-12 month clothes. So everything we bought for Halloween didnt fit until spring.

I find it's easier to stockpile for girls than it is for boys. If you buy a dress and it's too small, you can use it as a top with leggings. If it's too big you can use it as a jumper.

I also find that the top and bottom are different...making it even more difficult. My 18 month old son is wearing 24 month/2T up top and wears 12 month pants. So, it's all over the map. If there is something adorable, then limit yourself. There will be even cuter things next year....says the mom who has Spring 2013 all purchased, lol.

Yeah, I have to fight the urge to stockpile. All my friends and relative's boys have grown like crazy (7 year old in size 12, and actually on the skinny side. 1 year old in 24 month clothes, due to height.) And the girls have tended to be a little undersized (purely coincidental.)

I just bought a bunch of Carter's and oshkosh online for next summer because they were having a big sale, and I just couldn't turn it down. I did try to buy stuff that could be layered though, just in case the stuff I bought doesn't actually wind up fitting him in the summer.

I totally do. :) I always buy a size up from her projected size.
I even have her xmas outfit already from before she was born! It was too good of a deal to pass up. :)

I've been fighting the urge to stock up on clothes because I just have no idea how LO will grow, or what size she will be when she gets here. I am interested to see how many people buy ahead though because sometimes it is hard to turn down good deals!

yeah I worry about sizes too. As it is, he is fitting into the size that coordinates with his age. He is 4 mos and fitting into some 0-3 mos and all his 3-6mos. I assume that this pattern will continue? He has stayed in the same weight/height percentile so far.

I have clothes for him up to 24 mos, and just a FEW pieces in a larger size than that. So yeah, two years out ;) I always stock up on good sales, garage sales etc.

When my favorite kids' clothing brands have good sales, I like to stock up on stuff for my LO, and preferably get things that she can wear in the future. Right now I'd like to buy things that she can wear next summer, but I'm afraid I'll pick the wrong size and it won't fit her.

Do you buy clothes way in advance for your LO? How far out? Anyone stocking up for next summer right now?
