@hellobeeboston yes, I bought one of those cheap bra extenders at Target for like $6 and it's great!

Thanks all for your feedback. The ribcage expansion is out of control - I started pre-pg wearing a 34, which I could wear on the tightest or second-tightest clasp. Now I am wearing a 36 on the loosest clasp and really would be more comfortable in a 38!

I think I am going to wait then on the nursing bras, or if I get another one, it will be a stretchy one. Thanks

A bra extender has been a lifesaver for my widening rib cage! Like this:
http://www.walmart.com/ip/17167851

Pea in the Pod sold a similar item marketed for pregnancy for like $15-$20, crazy. Couple bucks at WalMart or similar store.

I would wait until a few weeks after your milk comes in for nursing bras. I couldn't believe how big my boobs got and I never would have imagined the size to buy. Nursing tanks are also KEY, and good for when you're constantly nursing and don't want to expose your belly.

@blackbird: Yes, exactly this!

I wore nursing tanks postpartum until around 6 weeks when I got my nursing bras.

your breast size stabilizes about 6 weeks PP, so that's when I waited. Mine were definitely bigger than at the end of pregnancy. I also found actual bras terribly uncomfortable and chafing until about that long PP, anyways, though.

I'd also only get S/M/L type nursing bras now since those you can wear now and in the first weeks and then once supply is established and your crib cage back to normal get real nursing bras/tanks. The S/M/L ones you can then use for sleeping.

I'd buy a couple of the stretchy sleep bras or S/M/L type ones and wait to get nicer ones until a couple months PP. I leaked SO much at first (even through nursing pads) that I went through several nursing bras and tanks each day -- I needed at least 6-7 nursing-friendly tops total in order to only have to do laundry every other day! I washed them so much that most of them were destroyed long before DD was a year old.

I got the seamless bravado bra which fits a lot of different bra sizes...it fit both preg and pp. So comfy, I sleep in it.

I bought a sized (#/letter) bra a week postpartum, which was a waste of money. My rib cage had really expanded towards the end, and with the engorgement, my proportions were just different. Once the engorgement period was over and my rib cage shrunk back down (about a month pp), I was fitted again and my size was the same as it was at 3-4 months pregnant. I did buy some sleep bras in the early weeks, and those have worked really well even as the fitted bras from the second trimester started to fit again.

I bought a cheap one from Target that comes in small/medium/large/etc. It's a step up from the sleeping ones as far as support goes.

Like PPs have said, the size fluctuated so I wouldn't spend much on nursing bras now. I ended up buying 3-4 similar to this one: http://www.apeainthepod.com/Product.asp?Product_Id=192950361&MasterCategory_Id=MC29 and I wore that around the house and while sleeping pretty much all the time, since it was stretchy it was fine as my size changed. Sometimes I would just wear that bra under a zip up sweatshirt so I was semi presentable (in case a neighbor happened to see in the window or something) but could nurse easily.

I bought a couple of cheap Target nursing tanks with the thought that I would buy more expensive ones when my milk came in. Luckily I waited because I ended up not BFing, but EPing so needed to get different bras anyway

I bought my first nursing bra at like a week or so post partum, after my milk had come in (just wore nursing tanks around the house until then) and then another batch around 9 months pp when my cup size had gone down and my rib cage was back to normal size. My cup size changes so much in the time during pregnancy, early nursing, and toddler nursing, so it was necessary to buy a couple sizes.

I bought a couple of cheap target ones that just came s/m/l before. Like you my rib cage expanded so much even the L was feelings too tight at the end and I just wore super stretchy, not so supportive pullover bras for the last month or two.

I would say my ribs went back down pretty quickly- within a month or two, but my actual breasts got much bigger at first, then very slowly went down. So stretchy was key for me the whole time.

I bought one decent nursing bra about a month or so after she was born and just wore the target ones the rest of the time. Not are that was the best solution though.

I'm going to wait to buy nursing bras until my milk comes in. I'm planning on wearing my Coobie bra in the first few days. It's easy to unhook the shoulder strap and push down, so hopefully that will work.

I bought my nursing bra at 3 weeks PP because my breasts fluctuated so much. By 6 mo PP one didn't fit me very well as I wasn't engorged all the time anymore.

I would personally wait until your milk comes in and calms down because the first week the boobs can be torpedos and too sensitive to contain. In the meanwhile a nursing tank or two can bridge the gap.

I am 36 weeks pregnant and starting to think about nursing bras. I have one that I bought several weeks ago when I needed to go up a size (so I figure I might as well buy a nursing bra!). My rib cage has gotten WAY bigger throughout pregnancy, so even that one is getting a bit tight on the loosest setting. I also bought a soft, stretchy sports-bra type one that I figure will work through some size fluctuation.

Did you wait to buy your nursing bras after the baby is born? I have heard some people say that your boobs can get a lot bigger once your milk comes in. Or did you find that your end of pregnancy rib cage size/boob size was pretty consistent with what you had while nursing? Or does the rib cage shrink after pregnancy, even while nursing?

So many questions - this all seems so foreign! I don't really want to be running out to buy nursing bras with a brand new baby, but I don't want to shell out $$ for them now if they might not fit after he is born.
