@Sugar.Biscuit: I only tried them when he was a newborn; but for us, the covers rubbed his cord stump raw & bleeding, even with the notch snapped down. It also was just a lot of bulk on his little bottom. Actually folding/rolling/snappi-ing them was way easier than I thought and I really like how much wear and tear prefolds can take. We now use almost all flips and flats/prefolds pad-folded inside.

Good question. Although, is there a difference between buying a used diaper that was used once or twice versus a diaper that was used for months or years? If I liked newer diapers, I would be more likely to buy used diapers that were being sold because the seller didn't like the fit of the new diaper. The diaper to me is like new.

At least, that's what I figure. I'm starting a CD stash and they are all new. But that's because I feel bad about hoarding used diapers when other moms could be using them.

I have bought a couple used, I just strip them and do a dilute bleach wash (then re-wash and extra rinse) to ensure they are sanitized and ready to go. Nothing coud possibly survive my used diaper sanitize routine, and nothing untoward has happened as a result of putting a pre-owned CD on my baby!

I also stripped my diapers and went through a few washes for any used ones, so I'm sure anything from the last baby is out of them.

All of our newborn diapers and most of our pockets are used. LO is almost 9 months and has never had a problem. To me, it isn't any yuckier than using used baby clothes. Remember, babies get poop, pee, spit up, vomit, boogies, and drool on regular clothing at some point, too. Since I would have no problem using an outfit someone else's baby may have spit up on or had a blow out in (assuming the outfit it clean, of course), I have no problem using clean, washed, diapers.

I most use prefolds and covers, but a few pockets. The prefolds all looked new, no stains. They are my faves. My pockets mostly looked new, too, except for one that I *knew* in advance (based on seller description) had some light staining.

@Sugar.Biscuit: Our Co-Op does diaper orders all the time. The only reason we haven't bought any is because we have a full stash & don't need any (I've bought other stuff though). I totally would if we needed some.... co-op orders are new dipes anyways. :)

I've bought plenty of used diapers! Like others have mentioned diaper services have been around for ages and with those you're ALWAYS using someone else's diaper! Just ask for lots of pictures if you expect them to be stain free.

Pretty much our whole nb stash was used (jilliansdrawers.com sells used dipes). I just couldn't justify spending the $$ on new dipes that would be so short lived. I've also bought a couple wahm brand fitteds used. All the dipes have been great & we haven't had any issues with them.

If you're worried about it though I would just sun & strip them before use. :)

I didn't buy any used, but my neighbor did. They were actually in great condition (BG pockets with Velcro).

They are pretty easy to sanitize. Diaper service has been around for ages and kids have been fine.

Think about a hospital gown and sheets. Those have been exposed to plenty of bodily fluids but they are sanitized and good to use again.

@Sugar.Biscuit: I personally only bought prefolds used because thy can be boiled in water and a few flips that are just covers and don't really absorb anything. Used pockets or AIOs are not for me.

I've purchased used covers on HB, but personally wouldn't have an issue with used diapers. I kind of see it like secondhand clothes in that poop/pee could happen on those, but it doesn't affect the quality. I washed everything secondhand like I would new items and sunned anything with stains.

@Sugar.Biscuit: Have you looked into buying from co-op's on FB at all? One I know that is closing in the next week would cost you under $250 (all fees and shipping included) for 48 OS AIO diapers with a bamboo insert and extra pocket to add more absorbency if needed. At that rate it would be cheaper to buy NEW from a co-op and solve your used dilemma. Wall me if you want links to any co-ops. There are many different brands and types running and you could get whatever diaper struck a your fancy...pockets, AIO, fitted, covers, prefolds, etc.

I personally have major issues with used, just like you, unless they are being used for another one of my children...like I have no problem using DS's old diapers on this baby, but would never use another child's used diapers, kwim? I also have no problem with someone buying our old diapers off me for their kiddo :) if they can get past it then more power to them!!

I borrowed a set of newborn cloth diapers. Once I sunned them (that's key to get stains out!) it really wasn't a big deal at all.

Did you buy used CD? DH & I have a little problem getting over buying used CD. We think it's kind of gross. Honestly if we are going to acquire a stash big enough for our twins (w/o going bankrupt) we need to get started. I was told 48 CD would work for twins, then I don't have to do laundry EVERYDAY.

How can I get over the "ewww" factor I have when it comes to buying used CD? Someone please show me evidence that it is completely safe and sanitary. To use another kids, clean but used diaper, on my kids butt.
