If you're conscious of a budget, this isn't a reason to blow $100+ when you don't have to! Just check them with your luggage as pp have said. No fuss, no stress and no extra out of pocket cost!

I would just bring them. We use the skycaps so we can check everything at the curb. Then when you get to your destination, pick them up with rest of your luggage. I can see that it would be somewhat more annoying to have two, but I really wouldn't want to buy seats that get used for 2 weeks.

Check them with your luggage. That's what we did and it worked great every time.

We use the really cheap Cosco Scenera (from Target) as our third seat. They're $65 or $70. But I'd also check with local mom or Buy Nothing groups...I'd hate to have to buy and deal with selling...

I'm only suggesting bring your own because I imagine you'll need car seats to get from the airport to your parents. Unless they are picking you up and you trust them to install the seats. Then I'd say buy and just leave them there for any future visits. You can get a perfectly acceptable carseat for under $100. It may not be what you would use at home on a regular basis, but for short term occasional use its fine.

I've bought ones that will last a while and then had my parents keep them for later visits. It's worked really well!!

You can get two decent seats for under $100, so I would buy new and donate (or have them keep them if there's any chance you'll go back before they outgrow the need). But we have the financial resources to do that, so it would be worth it to avoid the stress of hauling them and so I wouldn't worry so much about how they're handled by baggage people.

I would bring one, and buy one. Assuming the 3 yo is forward facing, I'd get a Harness to Booster seat (Graco Nautilus is affordable) so it can be used for a long time. If it goes smoothly on the way there, I'd consider bringing the new seat home with me, checked.

Our family of 4 (inc. a 3 yo and 1.5 yo) will be flying to CA (from the east coast) and staying with my family for about 2 weeks.

Originally, we were thinking of bringing our 2 car seats with us (gate checking them) but realize the additional stress/chaos it may bring upon us with trying to navigate through the airport with car seats and two toddlers in tow (along with a small carryon and backpack).

For the ease of convenience, we're toying with the idea of buying carseats and having them delivered to my mom's place and resell (or donate) them after we leave.

DH and I are really trying to watch our budget for this family vacation and and I am having trouble trying to justify the expense of 2 carseats (which will only be used for only 2 weeks).

What would you do?
