I have only had one and had an opening about 2 cm I would guess. It wasn't that deep. Apparently it is pretty common. It drained quite a bit for a few days, but then when it stopped it continued to heal with the rest of my incision. It only lasted a few days for me and didn't need packing. I did get a surface skin infection that required antibiotics (unrelated to the opening).

The doctor who looked at it and told me I just had to let it drain said she had a spot on her escape that still drained sometimes 18 months post surgery. Eek. Mine hasn't since it has healed over a few months.

So for me it too about a week before it started healing properly with the rest of the incision.

I had a pretty serious opening with my first (only) c-section. At 1 week postpartum it split open and started bleeding everywhere so I rushed to the doc. They examined it and it was 4cm long and 4cm deep. Because it was so deep, it had to be packed and dressed every day to allow it to drain/heal properly. The OB showed my husband how to pack the wound (he's a champ) and he did it every morning. It was not healed until 8 weeks pp, so it took 7 weeks from the time it split open to heal. But 4cm is VERY deep for an opening so I'm sure if yours was more shallow it would be less time.

I had an opening with my first, but not my second. My second incision was so much better. I had a lot of drainage from my first.

I had DD 10 days ago through a repeat c-section. And on day 4 postpartum, I noticed a lot of drainage from the incision. At this pt I have a ~5cm long opening in the incision. My doctors are all telling me this is common in repeat c-sections. But no one had told me this could happen.

So far I've had no improvement. I'm anxious to be on the mend so I can focus more on my kids.

Has this happened to you? How long did it take your incision to finally close and heal?
