@Mamatimes3: I'm almost at 2 1/2 years out and I still get pain on the left side of mine like I did when I had it. From what I read the side that is opposite of where the doctor stood hurts because that's the side the spreader is put in to hold the incision open. It's the correct side in my case, but I don't know why it hurts every now and then this far out.

@Sams Mom: Yea, I was kinda upset about the keloid scar with my 1st. I hoped it would improve with my 2nd. By my 3rd, I don’t care anymore. There is no way this stomach is going to look like it did before.

Each time is different too. I’m about 2 1/2 years our from my 3rd section and I’ve noticed sometimes the area still feels numb.

@Mamatimes3: Hopefully with time it will soften, but when I finally get pregnant I'll just be having another c section, so all this worrying is probably moot since I'll start over at least one more time.

@JennyLayneAZ: My son is an April 16' baby too!

So I'm just starting to think that a lot of it comes down to your body vs. massaging... I do think it helped mine a lot, so hopefully more massage will make it soften up again.

I was never told to massage my scar. I've never noticed it being hard, but it itches sometimes which I think is probably weird. C section was April '16

Three c sections and never massaged. Never knew I should have. Each time my incision healed with a keloid scar. I’m just prone to it. I will say that my scars from breast augmentation surgery have faded and softened tremendously since the 10 years I had the surgery. I never massaged those either. So in time maybe your scar will soften too?

My kid is nearly 3 and I probably massaged itfor a few weeks around 6 months because my friend mentioned it would be a good idea. I do feel it every once in a while and sometimes it is more noticeable than other times but I don’t know if that’s due to my cycle or what. I don’t know how long these things take to fully heal or if it is already? I have had another child since then, but it was a vbac.

Generally, if you have a lot of scar tissue, a plastic surgeon or even OBGYN will tell you to massage the area post surgery and after the initial healing period to increase blood flow, break up stagnant tissue (operative and fascial) and fluids that the body can/may dissolve within itself, and/or to soften the appearance of the general area. I was told to massage after my 1st csection (* emergency and with a lot of scar tissue) but not after my 2nd (* which included a scar tissue removal during the procedure). I have a single visual scar on the flesh; however, I can feel a slight ridge subdermally.

@LadyDi: Did they tell you to and you didn't do it, or did they not even tell you to? My OB told me at my 6 week appointment to start massaging it to make sure there isn't any adhesions. hmmmm, now I'm thinking it's not a "standard" thing?

@jaybirdie: oops :P

Mine was soft and no adhesions and you can barely see the scar... And now it feels like its stuck to something? I think is the best way to describe it. I'll ask him when I see him next because I see him monthly for fertility stuff. It's just weird that all of a sudden its back.

I never massaged it? Whoops!

My section was a little over 2.5 years ago and it's still a little hard but not noticeable. If it feels different than usual, I'd call the doc for reassurance.

When did you stop massaging your scar?

My son is almost 2 1/2, and I quit massaging my scar regularly over a year ago. But last night in the shower I noticed that it's hard? when it used to not be. Like I don't know if I have adhesions again or what?
