@GreenThumb: thanks for checking in! I'm doing ok, the cabergoline has been fine, but I'm feeling crappy from my ER this morning. They got 19 eggs, so hopefully it'll be worth it!

@mrs. 64: thanks! I figured there were other reasons to take the drug, but I didn't know what they were. I'm sorry your side effects on the new drug were so bad! We're you able to find a replacement without the terrible side effects?

@spaniellove: that's what I'm hoping. My E2 was an abysmal 750 with 13 follicles last time, so hopefully the quality will be better this time.

Forgive me, because I don't really know the IVF side of things, but I thought I would tell you about my experience with it. I took cabergoline for years for a pituitary tumor. I don't remember having any side effects, even at the beginning. I switched to bromocriptine when I started ttc because it was considered better for pregnancy, but the side effects of that were absolutely terrible. I'm not sure if the dosage is different for IVF, but I really wouldn't be concerned about side effects on the cabergoline. Good luck!

@Shutterbug: If nothing else, I'm thinking maybe the higher E2 with a similar number of follies means good things about those eggs? My fingers are crossed for you that you don't have much discomfort and everything goes very smoothly!

@GreenThumb: thank you for responding! I hope they're just being proactive and I don't really get OHSS too bad, but nice to hear the cabergoline isn't too bad.

@spaniellove: Not too high, really. This morning it was 3902, and I had 18 mature follicles and several smaller ones. I think part of their concern is the HCG trigger will probably make it worse. From what I understand, I wouldn't be able to do the Lupron trigger since I've been on Lupron all month already to suppress ovulation. I had very mild OHSS last cycle (gained ~4 lbs, painful to lay on my side), and that was with an estrogen level of 750 at the time of my trigger (but 16 eggs were retrieved) so I hope that it isn't much worse than that.

Don't have any advice about Cabergoline, but wondering how high your E2 is? Hope you're doing okay!

@Shutterbug: I took it during my fresh cycle and still had mild OHSS. The biggest issue I had with it was really bad constipation, but I think the OHSS would have been much worse if I hadn't taken it. I started it two days before my egg retrieval (my E2 was 6350 at the time). I really hope it helps you! Sorry about the possibility of OHSS - not fun!! Let me know if you have any other questions. *hugs*

Has anyone been ever taken Cabergoline prophylactically to prevent OHSS (or for any other reason)?

My RE just prescribed it to me ahead of my egg retrieval and so of course I googled it... the side effects sound horrible, but I guess OHSS is worse.

I'm also just not sure how common it is to be given Cabergoline during IVF. During my last cycle I didn't need to, but my estrogen is about 5x higher this cycle (it was low last time).
