Oh for bundling options you can buy little baby and toddler sizes ski masks! DD's looks like a rabbit and DS's looks like a cat; they're really cute (and useful)!

I don't have a LO, so take this with a grain of salt, but I've always loved the Swedish saying 'There's no bad weather, only bad clothing.' I think if you bundled up enough, a walk might help a lot??
Either way, I'm sorry, being cooped up with a cranky baby sounds stressful!

That blows! 5 degrees is way too cold to take a baby out. Their face which you can't bundle can get freezer burn!

What temp is it at 12-1 during the warmest part of the day? Is it possible to head out then right after his morning nap?

What if you asked for a carrier cover for Christmas? Then if he's facing you there's no fear of his face getting exposed and he'll stay warmer with your body heat.

More Cowbell! Sorry, instant reaction to the word fever!

I hear ya with the cabin fever, we just finished up with 7 months of miserable weather. I made it a point to get out of the house at least once a day, we walked around stores and malls frequently just to get out. We have a membership to the aquarium and spent a lot of time looking at fish-soothing for me and a grumpy, curious baby.

It is possible for DH to get home earlier and do his grading from home? Maybe give you a little break in the evenings to do what you want while he handles bedtime?

I still take the kids outside, even on days like today where we got more than a foot of snow in 12ish hours. I just make sure to bundle them up well and we only go out for 10-15 minutes at a time. DS is teething (yet again) so getting some fresh air and a change of scenery is an absolute necessity!

@mrs. wagon: yup we've done that too... although usually his break is around lunch time - so we'd get the car from 8am-11am which is smack dab in the middle of DS's morning nap.

OCCASIONALLY he can buzz over in the afternoon, but some days he has three classes so he has no time. Like I said, if I need the car, we make it work. But often it's too much of a hassle for him to make it a consistent thing. He says a 40 hour work week isn't enough to prep/grade and teach - so coming home only happens about once a week.

@Mrs. Pen: aiyeee!! Could he take a break and drive you home at some point during the day, then take the car for the rest of the night?

@mrs. wagon: DH's work is a 1.5 miles away so if I REALLY need the car we can usually work something out; but 3x a week he works until 10:15pm... sooo I can't pick him up because DS is in bed :-P
The summer was great because he biked everyday!

@junebugmama: don't get me wrong I love that he normally sleeps so well in his crib... BUT it's a bummer it's the only place he'll sleep. The pnp is a fail too.

Oh dear!!! That sounds awful :( We went out twice a day, every day, even in the winter. I was lucky enough to have access to our car. Wagon Sr. took public transportation to work when I was a SAHM. I would go insane if I had to stay indoors with a baby all day every day!!!

omg I am going to go INSANE.

1. We got our first big snow (that has stayed) a week ago, which now makes our daily walks impossible. It's freezing (5 degrees) and snow makes it difficult.
2. Since it is no longer biking weather, DH has to take the car (we share) to work, so that means I'm stuck at home 24/7.
3. DS hit his 9 month sleep regression which sadly is affecting his naps as well meaning it's one 30 minute nap in the morning and an afternoon spent fighting him to get him to sleep... So no sleep during the day and increased wake ups at night means more time to entertain DS.
4. Which also leaves less time ot clean and NO time to cook because when he doesn't sleep - he's miserable and clingy.

AND I AM GOING TO EXPLODE!!!!

I value naps very highly and the fact that those precious hours are stripped away from me is bad enough, but add that to DS being cranky on top of it and not going to sleep at night, and never leaving the house even for a walk... aghhhhh!!!

how do you survive winter with a baby while being a SAHM?
