We moved everything hazardous to one cabinet and put the interior latches there so any damage won't show. He can get into all the other cabinets and make a mess, but it's nothing that will hurt him.

We got the magnet locks which are completely hidden. They are like the old push latch ones, except that they don't open even a crack.

I would worry about the varnish too. We had some old school locks or just ties but we gave up and just taught LO to stay out, and moved anything unsafe.

We didn't do anything to our drawers and most of our cabinets. LO learned very early on (from daycare maybe?) how to close drawers with her hand on the front so fingers don't get pinched. If you have a lot of drawers with nothing dangerous I would wait and see how LO handles it.

I also have the kiscords posted above on the cabinets we do lock. LO hasn't figured it out yet (28 months) and I like that our adult guests don't struggle with it.

We just used the old school latches on our wood cabinets. That way any damage was on the inside of the cabinets.

@babybean404: we have those and they work well, but we haven't removed them yet so I don't know about the finish. We only put them on a cheap free standing pantry cabinet that we don't care about as much.

Do you have knobs on the cabinets? We have kiscords holding the double cabinets together. Our drawers are a little hard to pull open even for us so we haven't done anything with them. And the single cabinets we just got the inside hook things.

The kiscords might not stand up to the most aggressive cabinet sneaks, but my LO doesn't mess with them too much and they have worked fine.

I have a maple kitchen with a big island that has maple fronted drawers all the way around, plus a cabinet under the sink. I'm thinking of getting these cabinet locks but worried about the adhesive ruining the finish of the wood. Is there a better alternative?

http://www.amazon.com/Munchkin-Xtraguard-Action-Multi-Latches/dp/B007A2ZSZ8

My daughter is 10 months and is crawling and beginning to pull up to stand. There is nothing hazardous in the drawers but I'm worried that she might pinch her fingers in them.
