This is what I did when we moved into our house 2 years ago - you are right it was SUCH a big project but such a good payout for the price ($100 in materials and $100 in new hardware).</p> <p>Now we are looking at actually replacing all the door fronts since our cabinets are totally flat (no dimension) and look so dated! We sanded lightly, used TSP to strip the finish, and then stained them with a gel stain product that went on SO easily. We then polyurethane-coated them. It was a BIG project (took us a few weeks), but it only cost around $100.
