I drink about 2-3 cups of coffee a week (def not everyday) and look to it as more of a treat now than anything. I have basically stopped drinking all soda cus it just doesnt taste good anymore! I still love myself an iced tea- but i try not to drink it the day i had my coffee (md iced from DD). I bascially allow myself 1-2 caffeinated beverages a day- depending on the day. Most days its just 1. Moderation is the name of the game with caffeine!

I went cold turkey during the first trimester and totally cut it out. I am a huge coffee drinker (like, sometimes I can have two Ventis in one day) so it was absolute torture.

Once I hit second trimester, I started to slowly have a little bit of caffeine again, but I limited it to one cup per day, or 100 MG of caffeine.

one cup of coffee a day for me - sometimes i cheat and have 1.5 cups.... but that's a HUGE decrease from my typical 3-4 cups per day. had a killer caffeine headache for a whole week after BFP

I didn't during first tri aside from occasional coke - but only because I was so sick I didn't want any coffee. I drank it during pregnancy, maybe medium hot or iced per 1-2 days? my baby is totally fine and not hyperactive, like some people told me she would be. *eye roll*

I had none during the first tri and half of the second - which, as a big coffee drinker was HARD. Then I started drinking decaf coffee and caffeine free coke (which have trace amounts) near the end of the second tri. Now, at 35w, I'll drink an iced tea on a special occasion, but that's about it. I feel totally guilty about it too.

I think it's interesting how varied doctors can be with this topic! I'm not pregnant, but have been trying to cut back a bit. I've been using a smaller mug, and standing by the machine while it's brewing to enjoy the smell. I try to really savor my one cup. I realized that the ritual of coffee--grinding the beans, enjoying the smell, and so on, is a big part of enjoying my morning coffee, not just slurping down the liquid itself.

My OB's office recommended NO coffee/caffeine during the first trimester!! AGHH! But based on everything I've read and heard, under 200 mg of caffeine is ok...

So over the weekend I bought myself a pack of half-caff coffee and am trying to get used to it (not nearly as tasty as my extra bold coffee!)

I can't go without my coffee! I have one cup at home as I get ready and one cup at work. I think once we are in fact pregnant (TTC now), I'll cut back to 1/2 cup at home. I definitely need caffeine to some extend but the morning cup is almost out of habit now.

I had NONE while TTC and during my first and second trimesters, but when I got to my third I was so exhausted and craving coffee all the time so I asked my midwife and she gave me the go-ahead to have 1-2 cups a day.
Since then I've been drinking 1 frappe every day or two, and it's glorious. It seriously makes me happy. I suddenly start smiling again. So worth it.... haha

I didn't worry much about it; I continued to drink a cup or two of tea a day which is what I drank before pregnancy. Honestly, we have such a litigious society and err of the side of caution so much in regards to pregnancy here that if the AAP says 1-2 cups of coffee/soda/etc a DAY are ok, you know the actual "safe amount" is higher than that. I don't see any reason to stress yourself out over what-ifs if you stay well under the cautionary limit to begin with.

I still have it now and then. I was a total caffeine addict before, so I totally stopped when I got pregnant and now basically I'll have a cup of coffee if I'm EXHAUSTED (I think I've had three small ones my whole pregnancy) and no refills. Or I'll have iced tea now and then when we go out, occasionally a Diet Coke. This morning I got a green tea at Starbucks, got a grande too and it probably had more caffeine than I should have had. But again, I rarely if ever drink it anymore so I feel better about it.

Really I'm more scared of it keeping me up since I have a hard enough time sleeping.

You know what really irks me? When the server goes, "Decaf?" in this judgmental tone of voice when I order a coffee. I'm like, biatch, if I wanted a decaf I surely would have asked for one ;)

I'm not a coffee drinker, and most of the tea that sounds good right now is fruit tea. I do have the occasional pop, but its mostly clear pops which are caffeine-free in Canada. But I keep a tally, and as long as I don't go over 200mg (or a rough equivalent), I feel okay with it.

I'm pretty BAD! I drink Iced Tea every day! I've been drinking Coke a lot too since the pregnancy. Something makes me crave it! I tried quitting my iced tea habit cold-turkey in the beginning of the pregnancy but I would get terrible headaches and the Dr. said it was caffeine-withdrawals. The OB did not seem concerned if I had some iced tea or Coke 1-2xs a day, so I just try to be mindful of it.

I think you are ok. I continued to drink lattes and soda during pregnancy though not more than one per day. I also had plenty of chocolate and baby is nice and big and healthy. I figured if I wanted to have these things after baby is born and while breastfeeding I better get her used to it a little. Funny now that she is born I am scared to have any caffeine lest it should interfere with her sleeping even a little bit. Dont worry so much!!

Not an ounce has passed my lips since my BFP. I switched to decaff tea and coffee while we were TTC anyway and, besides, I'm so off coffee right now! I don't like chocolate particularly so that hasn't been a hardship. We only buy caffeine free Coke for home and, if I'm in a restaurant or a pub I'll order sparkling water or an OJ.

I have no idea whether it's bad for the baby or not but I thought why risk it for something I don't really need to have.

I cut back on caffeine while I was pregnant, but that probably means I drank what a "heavy" coffee drinker drinks, instead of the RIDICULOUS amount of caffeine I normally consume..... My daughter was born just fine and certainly wasn't undersized (which can be a side effect of excess caffeine) she was 9lbs 6oz!

I wasn't too religious about following all the "don't eat this or do this" pregnancy rules though.

I had cut way back on caffeine while TTC, which I think was good because pretty early on coffee just started to be disgusting to me, couldn't imagine having any. Now it doesn't sound that bad but since I'm out of the habit, I've stayed away. I will have iced tea or regular coke when I really need a pick me up or to settle my stomach.

My original plan (pre BFP) was to switch to decaf, but then I started reading about the chemicals they use to decaffeinate it so I figured a little of the real stuff would be fine if not better than decaf. Not sure what I'll do later but I think I will keep it as an occasional treat. Plus, it should help my headaches if I'm less used to it, I think.

I'm really sensitive to caffeine, so I didn't drink much of it pre pregnancy. When I bought coffee, I'd always get half caff. Now that I'm pregnant, I stick to decaf drinks, but I still eat chocolate. I've been craving Chick fil a sweet tea... I'm guessing there is very little caffeine in it, so I may start having it again every so often. It's my favorite!

@septemberlove: I was not interested in coffee in early pregnancy, but since feeling better I have one to two cups of half caff per day and sometimes a low-caff cup of tea in the afternoon. Soda here and there. I don't feel badly about it but have definitely had well-meaning people ask "are you sure you can drink that?" My MIL tried to not serve me coffee at Christmas and I had to explain to her that a little is ok.
